Cool, but I don't think that it's right that an OS has a store embedded into it.
Can I get the other updates - ATI specifically - without being forced to load the store?

There, I also used the word forced. My engrish teacher would be proud.

The default music player has had a store since 2003.

Updates are available via Software Update, apps can be bought from the store and elsewhere.

"ATI" updates are few and far between, but you have a number of options to get them - all at no cost.
 
The app store is pretty decent discovered a few good things I always wanted but could never find.. like bowtie.

Then install the update. Unlike iOS you're not required to use the app store so just delete the app and be done with it.
 
This is like taking a 10km detour on your way to work because somebody else has decided that's what you need to do.

How long have you been using OsX for?
 
The store is awesome. I see a good future for the Mac - my data is backed up on Time Machine, my Apps are on the store, getting up and running if you lose everything should be even quicker!

Well for the past 2.5 months you've had the app store's predecessor - can you honestly say it bothered you that much?

Yeah, you know what, I've experienced some launch bugs but I'm still going to add my tick to the store is awesome box.

Being able to log into a SA store account and have everything available for purchase right there is a pleasure... Downloading and installing is a pleasure... Like Synaesthesia said, having my apps "backed up" in the store is a pleasure.

If you don't want the app, trash it... it's just 2,5megs of the whole update anyway.

As well, trying to update through the normal software update but i can never get more than a couple of megs "an error has occured" very annoying cos the 3 other things in the update have downloaded perfectly.

Let me guess - mweb? I saw some speculation that this was due to peering (iirc akamai is hosted on IS).
 
Eventually I just used a iGetter and downloaded the update off the web.
