1000/100mpbs for home

I came across this on another thread for a 1000mpbs download/100mbps upload from Bitco,

Does anyone have experience having such a fast line for home? Do you actually reach those speeds?
I've called in and my area does support it, would you need to get another router than the free one they give you?

All new routers should be 1000mpbs. In regards to the speed, never used a 1000mpbs provider before but can confirm 200mbps from Webafrica is klapping it:

Yeah I don't think you really need it. Yes, it is a nice to have, but you are only making the ISP money at those speeds.

I have a monthly google enterprise account which comes with unlimited google drive storage.

I use it with my 200/100 line and it's pretty decent so a 1Gbps is going to be better

No problems getting 1 Gbps to homes. Most of the ISPs have theoretical limits to international traffic (just to protect our networks). But you will see 1 Gbps on most downloads. As @cavedog mentioned in a previous thread - you will be surprised to see how many content providers are actually local, giving linewire speeds (where they allow it).

Well, no. On Vumatel Gigabit is cheaper than 200/200 (It might have changed, but last time I looked 200/200 was about R50 extra), so definitely not a thing about making money. Sure, routing equipment that can sustain Gigabit speeds sound expensive, but to be honest, an entry level USG-3P can do Gigabit speeds fairly easily without anything like IPS/IDS and DPI enabled. The only issue I can think of is WiFi speeds, but if you look at gigabit packages and expect to get gigabit over WiFi on consumer equipment you are in for a big surprise.

Bitco offers uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled fibre to their clients.

I can assist with the sign up if you wish.

The router they provide can cope with the speeds of your package.

Bitco will maintain the pricing on the 1000/100 for quite a while. So no need for you to believe they will change their pricing in the next month or so.

Vumatel has only guaranteed the reduced line cost to ISPs until April 2020 as part of the promotion. We’re all awaiting an update on whether this will continue afterwards.

I think realistically there will only be an update on it early next year as it's still early into the "trial" ?

Yeah people don't realize that more than half their traffic is actually coming from local hosted servers in SA and not from wherever they think it's coming from.

Probably no speed restrictions on international too all though that price is insane. Cellc cfibre does not limit international on their 1Gbps promo account for R1499

Looks like these guys are paying too much for transit.. it wasn’t long ago that one of the big names had a 1G for R57000
