Let me say from the start, I am a patient soul - one of those, let the river take where it wants, do not struggle against it....with that out of the way....

Friday, I gave Telkom a call to see if I could increase my line speed from the 4megs I was syncing at...No probs, we can push you up to 6megs, switch off, router, switch on...was only able to sync at 4.3megs. Was advise, that is the max your line can handle...then was told, your exchange is saturated, this is the best effort that can be attained. As usual, read through MyBB....and noted all the different modulations, Gdmt, Adsl2+...was advised by a reply, to a previous posting, get Telkom to change your sync profile to ADSL+2 Messed around with my router settings, changing modulation from Gdmt to ADSL+2...was able to sync at 6megs, but line was unstable...reverting back to Gdmt got a stable sync at 4.3megs

Then called 10210 to change modulation...out of the 15 people, over the course of 4 days I spoke to, eventually got someone that had more knowledge about ADSL then myself..."Let me change your profile from Gdmt to MultiMode"...router synced still at 4.3 on Gdmt modulation...thought, oh well, I did try.....

Tonight, called and asked to be dropped to a 5meg profile...to see if it was more stable...

My Stats after being placed back on a 6meg profile:

DSP Firmware Version E.25.41.55 A
Connected true
Operational Mode G.Dmt.BisPlus
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 639900
Downstream 5268000
SNR Margin(Upstream) 5.5 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 5.40 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 14.0 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 38.0 dB
CRC Errors(Upstream) 0
CRC Errors(Downstream) 0
Latency(Upstream) Fast
Latency(Downstream) Fast

Modulation Mode is now G.Dmt.BisPlus, and I can now sync at around 5.2megs...while I was being re synced, I asked the 10210 operator....do u guys know, what you are doing? and he said no sir...we are given basic training, and that is that....- so basically, you rather fck when calling Telkom support to assist you with high level issues, you will be ping ponged from dept to dept, as there is no real knowledge at 1st level support...and do not even think there is higher tier support....bloody pathetic!!

try a better router , you need yo keep your snr above 12, your router could just be a crappy one ,or just a bad line.

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin
:
19.0 dB 15.5 dB
Line Attenuation
:
41.0 dB 22.1 dB
Data Rate
:
6141 kbps 635 kbps

im futher away from the exchange then you and can get 6mps stables , though my snr values is much better because of the router.

Have a crap line,... was crappier before...got Telkom to improve it slightly....so at the moment happy with what I am getting from the crap line....

Thereare but they rarely deal with the public, they have enough work dealing with the tier1 guys (serious) :D

Dude I can tell you stories about Telkom help desk that would make your nose bleed 3 different shades of red.
But I'm not going to do that because I don't want to relive the horror.

There is very little/no difference between the people that ask "do you want a plastic bag.." and the ones that ask "what modem are you using".

OK just a quick one.... Our whole neighborhood's lines were down, cable theft, it happens more often than a car wash in this area. So anyway, the line is dead and so is everyone else's. 10210 Lady asks me what modem I'm using..... then there was a long and awkward silence... I could have said anything at this point, "Jeep", "Black&Decker", "Homemark" or even "Bareback Ultrathin"... the world was my oyster.. but in stead I asked her to skip that step in the process, but this lady would have none of that.

No modem no fault log. She stuck to her guns, but I knew she still had the safety on. I had to call again. Thankfully someone with an IQ of just over 70 took my call and logged the issue without any fuss.

LOL!!!........"then there was a long and awkward silence", that is the worst, - you ask a question, silence follows...as if they were trained :Remain silent when you do not know the answer, hopefully the caller will think the call had dropped!!!...LOL!!!
