im not 100% sure but I believe that 1080i is actually about the same as 720p and 1080p is full HD (1920x1080)
ie. Go with the 1080p one

Always go with retrogressive if you can, your picture will be much smoother. So take 720p over 1080i. If you want more info, google will tell you plenty about this.

720p is also HD and will give a better picture than 1080i. Screen res is pointless if its being refreshed and siplayed poorly. Read:

Now we've got a DVD player that has settings for auto,720p,1080i and 1080p.At the moment we have set it to 1080i because the TV can only handle 1080i.I've set it to 1080p but see no difference.Why is that?

You can not display more information (data) than what is originally stored on that DVD you playing, ok.
So it does not matter if your TV can do 720p, 1080i or 1080p, the movie will only look as good as what the source stream is!

Yup! You can encode 1080p stuff and write that to a DVD, but then you'll only fit like 20 minutes on it.

I think you're lucky if your DVD is 720p and not just 720x480.

You need to get a bluray player to see the difference.
