10Mbps line?

if u read properly u woulda seen that i'm talking about "uncapped" and not "uncapped express" goofball. who the flip can afford uncapped express? ppl who go for uncapped go for the normal uncapped. businesses go for uncapped express.

normal uncapped -> http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/is_uncapped/

uncapped express -> http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/is_express/

go do some reading :)

there is no threshold limit with the IS uncapped option..
there is a threshold limit with the IS uncapped Express option..

business should go for the IS Uncapped option which is for business..
uncapped express option is more the home/SME that cant or dont wnat to pay that full price tag for uncapped..

few ISP where selling the uncapped express as true uncapped account, and they misslead alot clients that way.
IS picked up on it. and change it with the introducing of thoses uncapped express policy.

like I said know your products...

so u the goofball..
here is the thread that i replied to.. read your writing..

uncapped is not truly uncapped, cos as soon as you reach a certain threshold(u download too much in a few days), they cut the speed of ur line and the amount u can download in the following days and they give u a certain amount u can download in the following days - if u download up to that new amount, ur full line speed is returned and u get ur normal bandwidth again, but if u go over that new amount they cut ur line speed and bandwidth again.

Well we just need something like they have in the UK. I have a friend there and he downloads around 3gig per day without ever getting cut off.

Mercurial no prob boet... ;)

Gunther i do agree..
uk kind works something like this..
In the Uk there a 2 sytems they run.. Exmaple
option 1 = pay 15 odd month and have a cap and what ever extra they offer
option 2 = pay extra 10 = 25 odd month and have uncapped and what ever extra they offer.

u go to luv them over there..

the fact is that we pay way too much in this country for bandwidth. even some other African countries are ahead of us in terms of pricing and offerings.

First things first. IPTV has nothing to do with streaming video. It is a 'ONE to MANY' system that will run on the local Telkom network. They don't stream different parts of a channel (or video like Youtube) to different people, that would take up way to much bandwidth and resources. They stream the same thing to everyone at the same time.

As a result of it being "IPTV" (the technology) it also has absolutely nothing to do with the INTERNET and thus it has nothing to do with the "CAP" either. Think of it like DSTV, you don't pay for how much bandwidth you using while watching those channels or how long you watch them for. You just pay a set fee every month and it will be very similar with IPTV.

The main thing is that IPTV has nothing to do with the INTERNET (and in this case ADSL) they just happen to both use the same mode of transport (i.e. our copper wires)

Secondly in response to the 10mb ADSL story. ADSL is only capable of getting a max line speed of 8mb. That is also only possible if you are close enough to the exchange. So currently 10mb is out of the question. However as others have stated ADSL2+ can get us up to 24mb line speeds.

But in my view a 384K line is what everybody has in any case. Some of us may pay for a 4meg line (like myself) or in the near future possibly an 8 or even 24mb line, but we all have a 384line in essence.

If you browse a page or watch a streaming video (such as youtube) or any other of the internet uses, you are going to struggle to get better than 384 or 512 line speeds. There are just too many people getting access to the internet and not enough being done to upgrade network infrastructure to accommodate the higher volumes. This is both on our local network and to a larger extent our links to the world, such as Sat3.

As a result shaping is getting worse and worse. Yes I do get 425K/sec here and there if i download something. but that is specific to downloading and often requires multiple connections to achieve such speeds. As for everything else, shaping is the name of our game.

So in closing, if we are not getting anywhere near the capabilities of a 4mb line as things currently stand, is it really going to be worth the amount of money Telkom are going to charge for an 8mb and faster line.

I am not trying to be negative here, just merely stating the facts. There are better days coming. Just one of the under sea cables will give us much needed bandwidth. On the local front we have MTN building a massive National fibre network which will be in competition to Telkoms and that may help to bring down prices via competition.

Neotel is taking its time but it will also provide some relief to our strangled and overloaded networks.

Now I'm off to study, write an exam on Saturday and have an awesome time watching the Rugby World Cup Final after that. Go Bokka!!!!!

EDIT: -Disclaimer- The above involves Telkom and could declare anything I have written (above) null and void due to their controversial ability to change things from the way they are normally done around the world :)

yes we already established everything u said - if u read one of my earlier posts, i posted a link which says everything u just said regarding IPTV.

Chill a bit mercurial.

With 10Mbps one would probably live next to Telkom HQ with the kind of copper quality we have here. I mean most can barely make 4Mbps.

@mercurial Cool Dude :) I read all the posts and saw some guys were confusing IPTV a bit, I skipped your link though. Looked at it now, I have read that article (and many others on the subject before)

anyway, Cheers

true...rather keep 4mb line and get uncapped account would be more worth it
