10Tb Harddrive

Aah okay that's lekker. Surely for security/parity it must at least write to another drive though?

I always wonder why I can't just leave well enough alone.

My Windows 10 Storage Space is styling. Just needs another drive.

I'd go for 3x XTB disks.. This is partially why I made my vm with the disks as vmdisks so that I can eg move them (if the disks don't fail)

Yeah but snapraid is not realtime like RAID, you can schedule parity updates or run it manually. Then it will spin up all the drives I believe. But you can run this once a week if you're OK with the chance of losing new data since the last parity update.

It's similar to a backup, so any deleted or altered files can be recovered if the parity has not been updated.

How do you fill that thing up? People download too much Linux distro's.

My Pi auto-fetches my favourite distros. I have a 4TB NAS hooked up to the Pi for anyone to be served their Linux as needed. Only been aboutique two years and I only have about 400gigs left. I'm also auto reencoding all my distros to x265. Space is hard when you auto replace all your 1080p distros with 4k distros...

This is almost like those threads about parsley.

What's your process to re-encode?

Just a quick and dirty script I wrote that runs from 2AM to 5AM recursively. I can get you the encoder details later (some dude did an x265 comparison for his GOT DVDs and found a placebo setting that output file sizes about half of x264, I'm sure if you Google it you'll find it)
