Am I taking a risk by taking up my fibre internet with Telkom? They are currently offering a special for six months. I am moving away from Axxess.

Telkom Stream Connect for R489/month

Contracts. Do you really want the hassle? Granted 12 months isn't that long but still...

True, the risk-reward ratio has to be worth it.

Telkom will make me use the wi-fi enabled ONT on my fibre line, are there any concerns with using this instead of a dedicated router?

The same speed (50/25 Mbps) is R729/month at Cool Ideas and R697/month at Afrihost

Depends what the price is after the 6 months.
I have been on Telkom contracts for over 5 years on cellphones in the house and no problems. But not my fibre.
On the other hand our estate is big and everyone is on Openserve. But whenever their is problems with fibre its always the Telkom and WebAfrica/Mweb people.
So the only worry would be if you have a problem how fast Telkom will sort it.

Yes it is not worth it; Telkom is the worst; they just terrible and when you need support or need to change services or cancel; it’s a nightmare and you end up having to go to the Telkom shop and stand there for 2+ hours to get it sorted and they only work with debit orders apparently… WTF ?

Rather go to Afrihost, way better services and support and you be very happy

Contract with Telkom?! Good luck. You've just created a world of trouble for yourself, especially when trying to avoid renewing your contract at the end of the 12 months.
Telkom + Contract = Misery

A contract is only ever to the benefit of the company suckering you into signing it. Why don't people see this? One way or another they are screwing you over. Your "free" phone, or "free" router, or "free" data, or whatever it is that convinced you sign it is nothing but a ruse to screw you over until you bleed out. Don't be a sucker.
