Good day

I know there are other fourm about the same topic, but I want to make one for MYSELF :)

So I want to get a SSD, but the thing is, I have a H55M USB 3 mobo (Gigabyte)

I have checked the pricing for SSD (128GB) which was about like 2.5K (Expensive)

So I just want to know if anyone know where I can get a SSD 128GB lower than 1.7K?

Like I checked my Mobo stats, it only has Sata 2 (3GB/s) So no point getting a Sata 3 (6GB/s ) SSD

So just wondering if someone could help me :) Thanks

I haven't really seen 128GB SSD's going for less than R2k.

Here's a decent SATA II (3Gbps) one for just under R2k: ADATA S599 128Gb 2.5" SATA3G SSD

I'm actually surprised to see that the 120GB SSD's didn't really drop in price since last year, because I got my G.Skill Phoenix 120GB SSD last year August for R2000.

Why a 128GB though? 64GB is more than enough, well for me anyways I have windows, 3/4 of my programs, cod4, cod bo installed on my SSD and I still have 25GB free.

120GB is recommended, 30GB should be avoided for Windows 7 and 60GB can work, like NomNom said.

I think I have like 50GB left on my 120GB SSD, and I have Win7 x64, a few big games (TF2, CoD:BO, BF:BC2), Office 2010 Pro, Netbeans 7 & Java on mine. So if you're going for a 60GB one, which you can get for like R1300, then you just have to be very picky on what you install on the SSD.

Question is do u really need a SSD? At 2 K not really worth it IMO
Have you ever worked on a PC with a SSD before?

Will keep an eye out for that.. mm.. Yeah, I'm hoping the price WILL drop SOON!!! :D

Yeah, i know what you mean, it's not a NEED, but it's a WANT.. and a AWESOME want..

I asked about this in the pervious post, people say it's the BEST upgrade you can EVER get for a PC.. :D

So i think it's all worth going for it :) IMO

Yeah, I did think about the 64GB, but I just want to be future proof... I mean some games (nowdays) can go up to like 16GB so.. yeah.. killer ..

So just want to be sure.. (and it'll be stupid when one runs out of space, and then have to get ANOTHER SSD.. :( )

But K, I current only have 1.5K.. so I can't really say anything.. so MAYBE I'll go for the 64GB.. don't know.. :(

Yeah, no never a 30GB.. that's just a waste of time..

I was looking at the 64GB, but want a 128GB, but money is the limit :( me don't work.. so if I want to get a 128GB, gona have to wait till I can get a part-time..

anyway..

does anyone know when prices are dropping? Anytime soon?

I agree!!! With the: " Have you ever worked on a PC with a SSD before?"

@NomNon:

you say 64GB is enough right? Mm.. I'm reconsidering.. since I really want to get an SSD to improve performance on my PC!!

Start by stripping out all the kuk from the windows (& office?) install media, will save you a lot of space.

Mm.. how do you strip that out?

I mean on my PC ATM, I'm using a 500GB, and I only have 253GB free.. (But that includes photos, Vids etc.etc.. )

But say if I remove all that.. I still use (with ease) over 100GB..

Must I always clean?

Cause I have CCleaner installed.. and I use it.. mm... every 2 weeks almost.. and it helps.. but not by THAT much.. :(

You need to work out how much space you are currently using on your Pc right now, go to your main directory (c drive) then highlight your programs files, and windows folder then see how big it is, keep in mind that you don't ever put documents/music/videos/pictures on the SSD. For example my windows and programs folders come to 27.8GB meaning a 64GB SSD is more than enough for me. My Users folder is also selected cause most of my programs store Appdata in there which comes to 4.32GB, then you see that my documents, music, pictures and videos folders are missing, it's cause I've moved them to my other hard drive.

I see. mm.. Well my side it's still counting.. so yeah.. :P

Thanks :)

Yeah..

Looks ok..

Good on the price as well.. um.. does anyone have any comments on that SSD? (from SharkBait?)

Dude, I had the money to waste, so I bought the Vertex 3, but if I was on a budget, I won't think twice about buying it. It's a real noteworthy upgrade. :)

Edit: BTW, what does the rest (spec wise) of you pc look like and what do you use it for?

I see...

Mm.. yeah.. I don't really have money to spend.. I was planning to get a 128GB for about 1.7K.. but guess that won't happen..

Think I'm going to go for that one.. Thanks :)

Um.. specs:

i3 530
H55M-USB 3 Mobo
4GB DDR 3 (1333)
7TB
460GTX (1GB)

Yeah... that's about it..

I use it for gaming most like.. and some work I guess.. (not programming or anything hectic.. just word, excel etc etc )

Wow, that is an awesome price for that 90GB SSD, but it is rather slow with random read & writes compared to other SSD's. See http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/270341-32-benchmark-result-worries vs http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/357630-Buying-128GB-SSD?p=6716696&viewfull=1#post6716696
That SSD would still make a big difference in terms of speed over your existing HDD's.

Last year March I've paid R1400 for a 30GB OCZ Vertex 2, and that was the cheapest SSD I could find with a reasonable speed, which is slower than this Kingston 90GB.
