Hi guys, I was looking on my D-link router today and saw it has a Attainable Rate (Kbps) value. Im guesing this is the max speed your line can reach?

I'll paste the values from the router screen below.

Mode: G.DMT
Type: Fast
Line Coding: Trellis On
Status: Link Up

Downstream
SNR Margin (dB): 30.2
Attenuation (dB): 7.0
Output Power (dBm): 9.2
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 12224
Rate (Kbps): 4096
D (interleaver depth) : 1
Delay (msec) : 0

Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 27.0
Attenuation (dB): 4.5
Output Power (dBm): 11.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1200
Rate (Kbps): 512
D (interleaver depth) : 1
Delay (msec) : 0

Does this mean I can get a 12mb line???

Your stats are incredible, you must be living very close to the exchange. Yes, it means that theoretically your line can achieve 12mbs, unfortunately for you, 10mbs will be the max you will be able to get until telkom increase their line speeds to support 12mbs.

Edit: go here and check if your exchange supports 10mbs, if it does, call telkom to upgrade your line speed to 10mbs

Thanks, went to the link and got

ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL
Max speed supported by your exchange: 4096

:(

Yup. The 'Attainable Rate' is simply an estimate of the maximum rate that your ADSL modem can synchronize/connect at on that ADSL line, which is calculated from the Line Attenuation, SNR Margin & Output Power (perhaps not so much from this one) values.
Unfortunately it won't be able to detect if your Telkom Exchange supports it ;)

Unlucky :( guess u will have to wait till telkom upgrades your exchange like I am

Your stats are so similar to mine so yes

SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 301 260
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 80 35
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 73 121
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 11968 1204

Same here wish they would upgrade our exchanges

Your exchange supports ADSL. Unfortunately but due to infrastructure related problems cannot offer an ADSL service.

Should you wish to register your details in order be contacted when the infrastructure issues are resolved, please register.
Good thing I already have ADSL

Now to figure out what the routers password is so I can check the stats

hold down the reset button for 5 seconds so it goes back to factory default. then the username and password are usually 'admin' (without the quotes). rather tell us the brand before the reset so we can confirm, and please note a reset will also wipe all the other settings

The dlinks are a bit optimistic with the attainable rate...but they aren't that far off the mark so you'll probably manage 10mb if/when your exchange is upgraded.

"Attainable rate"...wow, wish my UI displayed that! Searched all over the place. Does the Billion software have this feature?
