I hope this is the appropriate sub-forum for this question...

I'm looking at getting a laptop to use for general use as well as to file/edit pics in the field (photojournalism). Hoping to learn to edit short videos as well in the future.

Would you guys recommend a 15" or 13" laptop? I'm specifically looking at the Dell XPS range...

For me resolution is more important than size. I would take a 13" FHD above a 15" 1366x768 any day.

For something in the field that you need to carry every day I would go for a good resolution 13"

The 15" is available with FHD and 4K resolutions too, so resolution is much of a muchness. After that, the biggest difference is going to be the CPU - 15" comes with quad core CPUs, and 13" only with dual core CPUs. So it's really going to come down to your compromise between size, weight and power.

But I'll agree with dsx3e - the 13 is a very capable machine - more than enough for photography. One nifty advantage is the dimensions are very close to the 11" MacBook Air, so if you like to travel light, the bags made to fit the 11" MBA can generally handle it.

I went from a 13" to a 15" and don't regret it at all. Sure it's a little larger but the extra screen real-estate comes in handy, especially when I'm editing and have to deal with numerous tool palettes.

9/10 happy photographers recommend Mac, especially in the field. :p :D
