South Africa hits major load-shedding milestone

South Africa has gone 150 consecutive days without any planned power outages, Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. said Saturday.

This milestone marks a dramatic turnaround from over a year ago when South Africa was plagued by persistent and record load-shedding that disrupted daily life, inflated food prices, and eroded investor confidence.
 
This is just very odd, (it's obviously nice not to have load shedding) but for years the SA public has been fed any number of various half-truths about the reasons for load shedding and why the powers that be were not able to eliminate or reduce it, a recurring story was that of theft and sabotage to Eskom equipment.

Hats off to Ramakgopa in whatever hand he's had in the respite from load shedding, but what's really very odd is that all this theft, sabotage, embezzlement of funds and corruption has magically stopped overnight? Or was it never happening in the first place and it was all a lie and something else entirely was going on?
 
still not sure why this is an achievement TBH,
we could have easily conquered load shedding long ago, if our politicians weren't so corrupt and pathetic.

It's no achievement whatsoever. More like an embarrassment to have to highlight the comparatively laughable 151 day respite given its 17 year history.

100000% agree, but still I guess compared to all the other disasters this has prevented, I guess its something good.

do wonder why though, when they were perfectly capable of flicking a switch, or clicking a mouse, and load shedding would vanish instantly.

why did they subject us to such misery and tough times for so long, when it was completely unnecessary,
all the wet coal excuses, all the press conferences with sipho the clown, dancing like a child, all the manhunts and finger pointing,

was it all necessary? couldn't they have done this earlier?
 
I am still happy that I got this wrong. The only issue is that the damage is done. I have lost work and other opportunities due to loadshedding.

Recuperation will at least take 2 years, unless darkness returns.

Some people in my area keep on wrecking the substations, eh... We had two blackouts within 30 days. Restoration time is a while, sometimes +48 hours. The government needs to get this sorted. Crime is a problem that can't be ignored. From my POV it is economic sabotage and should be treated as such.
 
It's very strange having appliances with clocks on that have actually kept their time for a while. Like living in the 90's again.
