Guys with 16" tyres note they are more expensive than other sizes, due to so few cars coming standard with them. I've just been to TWT Fourways and they don't carry stock : I need order at a cost of R1300.00 per tyre.

Anyway - what brands are decent?

I've been told Michelin at R1195.00 per tyre?

Oh yes they are hellishly expensive. Anything not normal is expensive.

Turns out my tyres are the same size/type that go almost exclusively on Mercedes cars so therefore obviously the only people wanting to buy them must be able to afford Mercedes prices.

All I can suggest is phoning EVERYWHERE and finding out. A lot of the tyres places will sell you are great for a fast car going fast but not so great for durability. I managed to find a locally made brand that works ninja for me.

16" typres are commonplace. Obviously it depends on the exact size though; my 205/55R16 typres were easy to get.

Michelin are good, but you pay for it. I got Toyo tyres, at just over half the price of the Michelins, and I've been very, very happy with them.

they are very expensive! my subaru has 215/60/16s are they were 1500 a pop a few weeks ago - almost had a heart attack!

VW dont have 17" options for the Polo:rolleyes:
Guess ill rather change the tyres and the rimz when I need to!:)

mintys are the cheapest, there is one in rosebank

i called everywhere in jhb for my grandad and they were the best and if you found it cheaper they should beat the price

When I was looking, I got the following prices:
Goodyear Excellence (which is what I had on): R1300
Michelin: R1200
Pirelli: About R850
Goodyear NCT5: R800 or so, I think
Continental: R760
Toyo: R750

There was cheaper type too.

Toyo at R750 seems to be a bargain. You can't argue with Porsche's preferred tyre manufacturer :D

Where do you guys come up with that they come standard with Porsche?

To be fair most tyres fit by the OEs are quite different from what's available generally speaking. When you roll a car off the show-floor it's in a condition that'll never be repeated outside.
