16k vs 32k SIM card issue.

I recently bought a new Sony Ericsson Z520i phone, which breifly accepted my 16k SIM card from MTN, until i tried to save a contact. After trying this, it constantly gave me the error "Insert SIM". The same SIM works in a Sony Ericsson P910i, T630, and other phones.

When i returned the phone to where i had bought it, i was advised to apporach MTN to upgrade to a 32k SIM card, which i did. The phone accepted it.

My question is, has anyone else had such an issue? Why would a new phone temporarily accept a SIM card, and then fully reject it? The SIM card works in all other phones apart from this one!

I do know that the new spec phones normally require a 32K sim or higher the old 8K and 16K sim's have some problems with the new phones.

But if you say it worked and then all of a sudden doesn't work in that phone anymore then I'm confused, you say the 32K works fine in the new phone?

I've got a 16K sim in a 6680 and works perfectly.

yes, it worked briefly until i tried to create and save a contact, then started asking "insert SIM". have got a 32k SIM from MTN this morning and it works OK. so, my confusion mainly lies on the issue of the 16k working till i tried to create a contact.

That's very strange and you say after you got that error the 16K still worked in other phones?

yes, it worked in other phones, and still wont work in the Z520i It still works in my P910i, T630 and my a friend's W800.

Very strange

What I can suggest is that you take the sim into a service centre let them put the sim through the sim doctor test and see what come's up,
