Hi guys

My girlfriend's father has an old 1986 Porsche Carrera that he has just hardly ever driven. He's kind of looking to sell it, and although he hasn't asked me to do it for him or anything like that, I thought I would find out the value of it so I could maybe advise him.

So, more about the car. You won't believe this, but it's done less than 2000km's. Yes, I didn't forget to add one or two 0's. He has hardly used it. And despite this, it runs perfectly, he took me for a drive in it this past weekend and we were doing 100 in 2nd gear, so no problems there. The exterior and interior are equally perfect- grey/silver paint, blue leather seats (driver's is electric), sunroof, right hand drive, electric windows. I was amazed. I don't have any pictures of the car at the moment, sorry about that, wish I had taken some.

I emailed an executive car dealership, but the guy didn't believe me that it had done so little km's, but I have nothing to gain so why would I lie.

Could anyone give an estimated value of the car, given what I've provided? I think someone has offered about R450k to him, privately, but I'm thinking that that's too low, given how little km's this thing has done, I mean it must be the only one to have done so little mileage.

Thanks

You may be right that 450k is too low because of the condition of the car.

But if finance cannot be arranged for this car then you are looking for a cash buyer which may present its own problems in trying to sell for a higher price.

So it has the 3.2-liter horizontally opposed flat 6-cylinder engine?

PM me your details. I'll put you in touch with someone I know that's an ex-Porsche Germany guy and does a lot of work on older cars. He should be able to give you good idea of what it's worth. He also lives in the area so would be able to take a look in person.

Hm that's true, I didn't even think of that. Would one of these executive car dealers be a better option, or would they just rip him off?

Car dealers always look after their own interest first.

I would never sell that car. Wait for him to kick the bucket and then inherit it. Selling that car would be a crime tbh.

I suppose so, I'm not sure of that era, whether a Carrera was the 'lesser', ie, there was a 'Carrera S' or something like that. But I do know that it only says "Carrera" on the back

Maybe he should put it on display, next to your [-]piece of junk[/-] Hisorically Significant(TM) Opel Monza CotY 1991. Just put it there for no reason, not sell it or anything. :D :D :D

Contact the Porsche center. They will put you on the right track.

congrats on contributing absolutely nothing to this thread and being a simple troll, the operative word being simple.

On those old porsches it is very easy to change the odometer mileage. Nobody is going to believe that even if it is true unfortunately. It's far more likely that the instrument cluster was replaced.

Take the R450k offer. Nobody else will offer that much. You can get a 2000+ model 996 carrera for that much.

Interesting point. Couldn't someone inspect the car if they were sceptical? I mean it has the original tyres, and has had one of those covers on it. This car looks as it did the day it was bought- surely that would expel any thoughts of tampering with the odometer?

Calling others trolls when you START A THREAD to brag about wanting to display an old-ass Opel in a showroom and starting a MyBB meme in the process takes some brass ones.

I thought so too, 1986 Porsches seem to go for R200k max.

There are quite a few SA Porsche fan clubs on Facebook. You should be able to get good advice and a possible buyer on those pages.

You have a point! :D It's just such an awesome thing to look at and be in. If it is to be sold (it's really not up to me), whoever buys it would be so lucky

You are bitching about a totally unrelated thread in this thread. That makes you a troll in my eyes. You obviously have issues about moving on in life.

But surely this 911 can't literally drive to JHB and back can it? I mean its only down 2000kms so its never been tested properly, it will probably break down half way to JHB, and that is just not historically significant.
