1GB WhatsApp data for R15

Fraudulent? My kid chows though Whatapp data like you cannot believe - just wish the bundles extended to Instagram as well.

It's a bit depressing how so many people in SA struggle financially to acquire the data needed for WhatsApp when they could be using Telegram at a fraction of the data cost. The hyper-efficiency of Telegram data-use is quite incredible. And they wouldn't need to backup large files weekly or monthly either as it's cloud-based.

It takes a while for Vodacom to [-]innovate[/-] imitate new products of their own.

If I'm not mistaken, we are all still waiting patiently (since about 2006) for Vodacom to invent realtime data usage for contract data bundles.

I'm sure Vodacom will eventually get around to puny overpriced social media bundles in 20 years when all the other networks are offering dirt cheap uncapped services and no need to distinguish between data use cases

No one cares about Telegram

The asnwer is: Telegram is truly encrypted, they can't separate traffic and bill it differently.

I also think that these social bundles are unfair and support monopolies.

Funny then that my friends, family and colleagues have been relatively quick to join it and sing its praises. And that Telegram has doubled its userbase in around a year. If I recall correctly, they said much earlier this year that they were up to 200m active users.

Also funny that you'd be opposed to an objectively superior messaging platform. Do you not like efficient compression, unlimited cloud storage, untethered apps, 10+k user limits for groups, stickers, working GIFs, better admin controls, deleting any messages you've sent within 48 hours, slicker apps, being able to give out a username instead of a number, not needing to add every member of a group for them to display normally, not using an app owned by Facebook etc. etc. There are way more advantages to bother getting into.

Thats nice and all, but until I'm forced to move over to Telegram - I'l stick with WhatsApp.

Mtn WhatsApp bundle doesn't allow you to download images / videos etc. I was charged standard data rates was shocked actually..

Wow... I am shocked. You can text on WhatsApp but cannot download media. Wow... guess I will stick to my usual data bundles :(

available on mine. so its just for messaging, as in no media or internet calling?

1Gb for R15!

I do not know who can exhaust 1GB b ONLY using it on WhatsApp! Seriously!!! This is a devious scheme. It should NOT be prescriptive. If one buys 1Gb data - then One must have the prerogative to use it HOWEVER one's wishes to!!! I hope data users do not fall for this scheme and research prices and conditions wisely before buying data.

1GB WhatsApp data for R15

Telkom has launched a 1GB WhatsApp bundle for R15, where the data lasts for 30 days and can only be used on the messaging platform.

The new WhatsApp data bundle is available through the *123# USSD menu by selecting option 2.

My kid exhausts all of her inclusive Feeeme whatsapp data in a matter of days - a bundle like this is exactly what she needs since it saves her more expensive general use data for other things. R15 saves me having to buy another R100/gb bundle.

Images and videos are fine for me, even without other data or airtime available, video call's are not.

I found this interesting bit of information on the internet

Data test: How much is 1GB? | The Lowdown
Jun 1, 2017 - WhatsApp messages are really, really small when it comes to how much data they use. With 1GB of data spent just on WhatsApp, you could send over 1.5 million messages. If you send images or videos a lot you'll use a little more data, but you'll definitely be able to say as much as you want to everyone you know.lowdown.carphonewarehouse.com/how-to/data-test-how-much-is-1gb/29283

OBVIOUSLY I use the term loosely.....

My point is that there is NO need for these specialised bundles when the operators CAN bring the cost of normal bundles down..

And the companies you're defaming would use the term DEFAMATION strictly... Just saying.
