First night with my new iBurst modem and I am already posting another thread.

I connected my Desktop modem with the USB cable, and my connection (or whatever you call it, but unfortunately not download speed) was at 1mbps. After having problems last nigth with utTraceStar that can not pick up my modem, I tried this morning the ethernet cable (is this correct?). All of a sudden it was 10mbps. But then again another problem................on the dashboard it keeps on saying "no modem connected".

My two questions: should I uninstall the modem and re-install with the ethernet cable or should I change a setting on my pc to see the modem? Or maybe there is something wrong with my pc?

Obviously the 10mbps is better than 1mbps, but will it have an influance on my connection speed? :(

PS: I also posted another problem under the utTraceStar thread. Maybe someone can help me there as well, then at least I dont have to start another thread. Three threads in three days of being a member is enough for now. :D http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=28356

AFAIK the link to the iburst tower is a max of 1mb/s ... but i still stand to be corrected ...

and the fact that your connection is saying it's connected @ 1mb/s or 10mb/s is purely the connection between the PC and the MODEM and not the connection to the tower...

And for the connection speed to the tower all depends on your signal quality and some extra blah blah blah fish-paste

Thanks. I was worried that the USB cable is slowing down my connection by saying 1mbps and not 10mbps.

Did you follow the instructions on setting your IP address, etc? as necessary for utTraceStar to work?

Only got hold of the instructions this afternoon. Will try it out tonight.

the latest version of that software got a litte wizzard .... make sure the modem in directly connected to your pc ... and after the wizzard restart the modem " recycle the power"

Dashboard will not work unless the modem is connected directly to your PC and your connection of 10mbs comes from your ethernet card's connection to the modem, mine reads 100mbs. You can still only get a max of 1mbs connection speed to the net. You need to set your IP connecting to your modem as 196.168.250.1 [I think (at work now, can't check my connection)] otherwise utTraceStar wont work.

Yep, its the speed between the PC and modem when using the ethernet, mine connects at 1gb/s :D & ya, the ip on Iburst terminal needs to be set to 192.168.250.1 & then just reconnect but I think that it needs to be done with the usb not the ethernet, can't remember exactly

That explains why my dashboard was not working. My utTraceStar worked fine with the IP settings I got from the utTraceStar discussions.

If I understand correctly, to fix the dashboard I need to open the iB icon that has the line throught it (bottom right corner) and enter 192.168.250.1 in the IP field?
