Ok, so today I felt like playing around with my old laptop. I read through a few sites about overclocking laptop CPU's. My laptop has an Intel Celeron M 410 processor @ 1466Mhz. I've just overclocked it to 1720Mhz and am wondering whether I should try to push it further.

The CPU temp is hovering around 70 degrees under max load for about 15 minutes now. I've used Clockgen to overclock and am using CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008 to monitor temps and frequencies. Am also using Prime95 to push it to max load.

Should I try to go further? Apparently from a website Prime95 will give me a warning if I push the CPU too far.

Update :)

I've gone up to 1965Mhz and it wont increase anymore for some reason. Bus speed wont go higher than 179Mhz. The multiplier is 11. This is 34% increase from the 1466Mhz. \o/ Temperature is now a steady 73 degrees at max load.

Well the only thing i OCed on my lappy was the ram.
From DDR333 2.5-3-3-7
to DDR400 2.5-0-0-0

Didnt feel any much faster...waste of time
(Super PI was 2 sec faster though =.=)

Hmm

I also overclocked the core on the GPU from 300Mhz to 400Mhz using powerstrip. I could only increase the CPU and GPU speeds by 33% max. Temps are now below 60 degrees on normal loads :)

Haven't messed around with the ram as yet. Maybe will try that sometime.

73 under heavy load is a touch high, but the important bit is how high does it go when you are working normally. 60 for normal loads is fine, Most laptops will run even higher at normal loads.

It hovers around 60-65 for normal use (web browsing/excel). Goes up to 75-80 when playing games. Below is the comparison of the performance before and after the overclock. Pretty good increase :)

Try Prime95...

My Q6600 with a 600Mhz overclock reaches 70C on a VERY hot day... Which is fine because it will never go above 65C because nothing overloads your CPU more than Prime95...

O/C'ing a laptop is not a good idea. Sometimes you can do it without issues, but quite often it does not work well on the long term.
