Hi guys

So my grandmother's lappie died and she got herself a lovely little Samsung to replace it. But this is where my troubles start, I need to get her files off her old laptop's HDD but its a 2.5-inch IDE PATA drive but I don't have a converter for it.

Now I will try find a new one if this plea falls on deaf ears but since I need it only for a single night I was hoping someone in JHB/PTA might have an enclosure/adapter I could borrow for a weekend. If its second hand and you want to make a bit I might even buy it off you.

Otherwise if anyone can advise a place to grab an adapter/ enclosure for cheap (brick and mortar store please, don't feel like waiting for shipping).

Frontosa sells external adapters for R99 ex vat.

Vantec nexstar-tx nst-210u2-bk , 2.5" iDE to Usb2.0 external enclosure , blacK , aluminum , usb powered , 130x73x14mm , with carry bag

sadly I don't have an account at Frontosa. Anybody here who can arrange for me to buy COD on their Frontosa account?

IF the drive has bad sectors, you should look for IDE to SATA converter (not USB).
If you are in Midrand/Diepsloot area, give me PM to my Email, I have mini-PC with 44-pin IDE interface.

The drive is fine, the laptop just refuses to turn on any more. I think the mainboard or the power system internally has died.

No problem, you can borrow it. I can test dead lappie too.
