Hello im a newb to pc`s Just need some advice I got a socket 487 with 2.8 cpu and a socket with 1.7 ghz In seperate Pcs can I swap them around ,will I need drivers or something ? Please help this newb

If both use the same socket then you should be able to do that without any problems or a need for drivers :)

This is not to say you need drivers for different socket CPUs, mind you :p

You need others to understand your question before someone can answer your question.

If the two processors from different PCs are using the same socket type, eg Socket 478 (not 487) then it's ok to swap them around. But you probably need to clean the old thermal paste off when you swap them around and apply new ones. If you don't know what socket is the other one, read the pinned topic in section and use software to check it out. Google what you do not understand.

Not sure I understand the question. If the motherboard sockets and chipsets are the same, and both motherboards can accomodate either processor, then yes, you should be able to swap them around. It's difficult to answer you 100% as we'll need more info...

Which processors and motherboards are they (i.e. the models)

I can only comment on the drivers once I know which models they are...

Also bear in mind that with old school boards like those, you need to change the FSB for the board

if they are both socket 478 and both motherboards support socket 478 you just need to swop them and it should work as soon as you start your PC up.

Get some paste at a (PC) shop. Shouldn't be more than R40. Clean off the old paste, put a lick of paste on the CPU and seat the heatsink. T/paste does wonders for any CPU. It's refreshing. Like a radox bubble bath, but for CPU's. And without the water.

Im also looking for memory this is the info SIW gives me

Put the above into layman's terms, your mother board has 4 memory slots and each slot supports maximum of 1G size memory stick, upto 4G in total.
Currently you have got a 256Mb Samsung DDR II 400 memory installed. So if you want to add more mem, you can keep your current 256Mb and add another 256Mb DDR 400, or something bigger depends on your budget and compatibility of your motherboard.

AGP 4X & 8X, Which one does your MB support? I can remember something like you can slot a 4X card into 8X slot, but not 8X card into 4X slot (apparantly it will fry either the card or board, not backward compatible). And the speed between 8 and 4 is different, 8 is faster.

There are cards that are compatible with both 4x and 8x

The software you're using seems to be reporting very different values for your hardware - if you open up your case, what are the makes and models of your motherboards?
Example-
Make: Gigabyte
Model: GA-K8NSP (rev 1.0)
This info is usually printed directly onto the board in white print.

Normal SDRAM for this one. 2 Slots each supports upto 1Gb stick. Can not see what speed from the info you provided, but faster SDRAM eg pc133 will be backward compatible to pc100 slot.

Regarding to the AGP 4X or 8X, the fry your motherboard thing is what I can recall something I read several years back, may not be true for now but it's your choice or wait for others to clear it up.
