I got 3 routers. Currently telkom adsl is my main internet, but the phone cables got stolen, was down for a week. Was up for a week and now down again. If I connect a 3G router to the adsl one, what will happen if the adsl data comes back. See see attachment. The plan is to get rid of the adsl, but not today.

I do have a cable between the 3G and Adsl router, but it is not connected currently.

Yeah you probably not going to have your line restored

if you want auto-failover / traffic balancing over multiple WAN connections there are some routers that support that.

Personally i would setup a pfSense firewalls using an old pc with multiple NIC's which will be super stable and give you lots of options.

Drop me a pm if you need some guidance.

So if I connect the 3g router to the one where the adsl is, must I change something, or disconnect the adsl?

What is your dsl modems make and model number?

If it has a wan port you connect the 3g router to that and there will be some kind of manual switch in the web gui under wan settings to change transfer mode from dsl to wan Ethernet.

Its manual so you will have to check yourself if your dsl is back up by switching back.

Tenda D301, no WAN port.

Looks like a shared LAN port.

Interface
RJ11 × 1
Power Jack × 1
USB2.0 × 1
10/100Mbps LAN × 3
10/100Mbps WAN/LAN × 1

Connect the 3g router to the WAN/LAN port and do the setup for DHCP internet connection mode.

edit: You will have to manually switch back to DSL mode when your DSL comes back up, it won't auto switch - its just a quick way for using your current network setup with the temp connectivity solution.

Like the other guys said, if you want "auto-failover" you will have to invest in either a router that supports it, or build one and configure it.

Thank you, was only looking for a different colour port
I went pass the telkom exch this afternoon, they busy repairing the cable, and even cementing it. They said I will have a phone tomorrow.
