2 Modems At Once

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows if I can connect 2 modems at once to MWeb?

I currently have an ADSL modem on the one side of my house where all our computers are but unfortunately the wireless only covers that part of the house and I would love to have internet on the other side. I do, however, have a second jack into which I can connect a modem on the other side of the house as a result of our computers being there originally and as this is where all the bed rooms are I would love to just buy a second wireless modem and connect it up and let it provide wireless that side. Does anyone know if MWeb would allow 2 connecting devices at once? I acknowledge that our computers on the one side of the house will not be on the same network as the other side however all I really want is net access on the bedroom side.

Would be a great help if someone knows the answer to this question or has any other suggestions (unfortunately a repeater wouldn't work as the parts of the house are quite far apart).

Not sure bout connecting 2 modems on the same line, most isps support 2 connections on capped accounts. but u get switches that uses the houses power cables for networking. eg u plug one switch in ur bedroom power socket and one on the other side of the house and their networked. might be worth looking into that, then everything is networked

Nope. Only one of the two modems will sync. You could, however, run a single cat5e cable through the roof from the one side of the house to the other. Not ideal, but it seems that this would be the best solution.

You can only have 1 ADSL modem connected to a telephone line. As soon as you attempt to connect a second one, the first one would also disconnect.
You could of course have 2 modems, but only switch on one at a time, which would be quite a hassle.

Usually wireless should easily do 30m inside a building.

Laying a cat5 cable would certainly be the cheapest option, unless you already have a second Wireless AP/Repeater.

You could also get network devices that connect to the 220V electricity network to create a LAN on it. The devices aren't cheap though, but its not like R1k per device AFAIK.
