Well, we all know Telskum's service SUX. I just heard it is going to take 2 MONTHS for them to install my line. I have just moved house and they said the line will only be installed at the end of September.

Can you believe it!! DAMN.

They say that ALL 480 DSLAM ports were taken up in the kiosk. I find it hard to believe. I mean, come on...

This is an aspect that needs to be addressed in the ICASA SLA guidelines.

Installation of new ADSL services: In line with standard international practice: Next working day.

DSLAMS don't fill up by themselves. It is possible to plan to have sufficient capacity in time.

To upgrade my isdn to adsl was gonna take 21 work days(quoted by telkom). I cancelled due to other reasons.

I agree, I mean...come on. How can ALL the ports be filled? Think about it. If their are 480ports in a kiosk for an area (As stated by our ever so honest Steve White) and Telkom has +- 100 000 ADSL users and we had only 1000 areas that have kiosks,....That is 480000 ports. Which means that there is WAY more than enough ports for everyone. What are the chances that 480 people in my area have ADSL. If that was the case then it would be fair to say that the rest of South Africa has ALL the ports filled too. Why is it SUCH a coincidence that MY area has NOTHING left??

This is again a case of Lies from Telskum! We can't go on like this. Telskum is taking us back in time not forward!!!!!! Just to fill up their precious pockets full of money.

Another long wait

gabbadude -- what area are you in? I applied to have my ADSL transferred from Sunnnydale to new house in Fish Hoek on 1 July, was told no prob, then at end of July was told no DSLAMs available, will have to wait till end of August. (Was told that the work in the exchange will be finished on 19th August, but no idea when my line will be installed.)

After a year of no-problems ADSL, using dialup for the next month or so is going to be expensive and very frustrating!

I stay in Stellenbosch.

They first told me that a DSLAM port has already been assigned to me and then they tell me that the ports are full that's why I have to wait until the end of September. I mean, the voice line is already in the house I am just upgrading the line.

This should be a quick job!!

Let me guess ... 80 is actually in use at any given time and the rest is either reserved for backup or spares :).

2 Months? What luxury.

I applied mid March - I have an install date for next Thursday (the 11th) - I still have to see if they pitch up.

So.. March..April..May..June..July..August. 6 Months, wooo!

Like I said,...LIES FROM TELSKUM

I got a call saying the line will now be installed on Sunday. :D

Can you believe this!! What happened to the "There are no DSLAM ports available in my area. Proven lies!!

Please don't misunderstand me, I am grateful but geez guys, what's going on at Telskum. How can these guys be in business?????

I have just ordered by ADSL line (22 'nd July), so please excuse my ignorance.

At what point do they charge the installation fee - I would hope this would be only once it has been completely installed? My point is, if I cancel at the end of August because it took too long, will I still be subjected to any charges?

You only pay once they have installed the line. You will be charged on your next invoice.

gabbadude - The worse Ive heard, buddy of mine in my area, adsl got disconnected and he went and made a query about faulty line. They then told him, there is no port available and he has to wait 3 months before they get a new bank of ports available.

Ok now you can allready think, WTF, and he thought the same. He then asked them, how did this happen, he has been using adsl since the start end 2002 roughly. THEY then told him, his not listed on the ADSL accounts and doesnt even have ADSL.

The next day he took his telkom billing for last few years LOL, was huge stack, to Telkom office and made alot of noise... The only answer they gave him, sorry sir, we dont know how this is possible, but you have to wait till more ports available.

Eventually, he had to wait 3 months without any success to cancel his billing, so he paid for ADSL over 3 months till he got adsl back, they then credited him 1 1/2 months.

RETARDED or just THIEVES?

Damn Clipse, THAT SUX!!! I can't believe he had to endure that. I would've sued! They should've given him compensation or something. What if he was running a business??

DAMN that's mind blowing....

I'm in Emmarentia and we applied for DSL three weeks ago. After the first week, we were told no probs - line will be in next week. Now just been fed the 'no ports are available' excuse, so gotta wait for them to fit something or another into the exchange - and g0d knows how long that will take :(

Don't hold your breath.
It took 6 months for me. I'm just hoping they're not gonna **** me around when they're due to install next week.

Mind you, with all the **** going on with the shaping etc, I wonder if it's gonna be worth it.

jus keep on foning.
or go to

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=20682

and theres a list of useful contact details. i did tht n i got my ADSL installed way before the scheduled date, and i got it the next day after emailing a few people in the list of useful contact details! :) Maybe just my luck?!?!

I called last week Monday and some Telkom guy called me up on this Sat. telling me that the scheduled installation date will be on the 11 August! I was totally surprised...but I'm now contemplating whether I should get ADSL as with all the nonsense that's going to happen on Nov. might just not be worth it in the long run.
