A friend of mines father signed a 2 year contract with telkom :wtf: for ADSL but he gets the crappy service that we all get from telcum. He wants to get uncapped but his dad isnt willing to pay the full payment to close the contract/account. Is there any possible way to close that account on the basis of bad or lack of service that he gets eg internet being offline allot and telkom that takes fkn ages to come and check out the problem etc etc?

let them lodge a complaint at the slightest problem. If there are to many complaints re the same fault in a short period he should get contacted by a quality department. This person should be able to advise hime what his options are.

Or at least that was my experience....

Sorry, but if you're stupid enough to sign a 2 year contract then you deserve everything that's coming to you.

You say he gets crappy service, what are the problems.

I'm on Telkom Do2 and had no problems with Telkom or their staff, then again I go instore to sort out any issues/queries.

Like I said hes got allot of connection issues even if nothing is wrong with his line and router and waiting ages for a technician

So far I've actually had pretty good service from Telkom too. I've always did the fault reporting via their web interface and the technicians always came within 2 business days (usually the first one).
Unfortunately when you're calling, you're at the mercy of the operating, which can range from someone who knows absolutely nothing to someone that is willing to help and actually understands what the problem is.

If you have a 4Mbps connection, then you are prone to having more trouble, and when you're looking at 4Mbps - 10Mbps connection, then the odds are even bigger!

It would be nice to know exactly what your current issue is with Telkom.
It would be a bonus if you can provide us with your line attenuation, SNR (noise) margins and sync (download + upload) speeds - which you can find on your ADSL modem/router's web interface.

If he has "connection issues" with Telkom I dread to think what his uncapped experience will be like.

TBH I think the only problem here is your friends fathers refusal to ditch his capped Telkom contract. Why not buy and test a axxess uncapped account for one month and get an idea of what uncapped is like? - you are then qualified to join the "which ISP has the best uncapped" debate here on MyBB :D

Yea. I also thought its just to get uncapped coz he gets capped in the second week of every month. But since Ive gone from Do your mom, do your dad, do broadband to mweb uncapped i also had less issues with my internet.

I feel people need to be informed about Telscum's evil doings, I don't want to agree with statements like deweyzeph's just made, because I'm sure not everyone has been a regular forumite and know what telkom is guilty of and just how crooked they really are. I work with an ex telkom employee, who thinks telkom is the Bomb.

Its easy for clients to feel the same way, since they probably also remember telkom as part of the good old NP Government or something lol..

But yes I really would love to see people taking an active roll in exposing the likes of telkom to aid other people in making informed decisions regarding contracts.

I don't think residential users have an SLA (service-level agreement) with Telkom, so by complaining about your poor speeds or connectivity problems isn't going to get you out of the contract. From my understanding there is nothing Telkom has to do about poor service, even if you moan for two years. Best you could hope for IMO is for them to resolve these issues. Alternatively if you're willing to spend the money (either directly or indirectly via time), could take up a complaint with some legal authority, not sure who that would be though.

/side note: I really with people wouldn't sign up with these contracts, the only reason they do is for the free hardware but they have no idea how little this amount is in the grand scheme of things. Generally I think most folks imagine that a router costs a fortune along similar lines to buying a cellphone with cash instead of taking out a contract.

On the same physical line?

Ermm - I thought we concluded his famous "connection problems" were actually due to his being capped on his Telkom account?.

If he is having line faults it's still going to be Telkom fixing them whatever ISP he is with or the type of account he has, capped or uncapped.
