Seriously poor pricing. A marginal advantage over load-balancing does not justify the huge cost implications.

Diginet may be very expensive, but at least users are not charged by the gigabyte.

Exactly - this product is aimed at firms who are too skint to hire their own tech support, or where their tech support is not so tech.

When will they learn that we want uncapped not 20Mbps

But bladebob, why even bother? Why not just get multiple lines and bond them yourself - it's much cheaper and software is free...

Bonding vs balancing

Still cheaper to do load balacing between 2 adsl line, or even 4 lines, and just using your own account. And the speeds will be around the same too.

My company has been using Technology Concepts solution for approx the last 3 months (approx). We have 2 x 4Mb/sec lines. (We also have offices that run normal "load balancing".

For us the primary benefit of the bonding solution is a single static external IP address. No load balancing solution that we looked at does offer this service. I know that IS does offer a static IP solution, but that isn't on 4Mb lines that are bonded into a single address.

We have not yet ditched our diginet service. But considering the reliability (and cost savings) that we have had so far, we may well throw Diginet out in the new year.

As far a I know Linux supports this. Do not ask me what versionserver.

Is it not a bad time to bring out a product like this? Before Neotel's ADSL2+ / VDSL / Fibre / whatever stuff?

I think it will be some time before Fiber will be available in most areas in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban. It is definitely a cost effective way to replace Diginet, but the problem of SLAs remain for ADSL… I can therefore foresee many companies using this for bandwidth intensive application while keeping one Diginet connection for backup purposes.

IIRC, Vodacom [Business previously VCS] intends to launch microwave link services for corporates that would most likely make Digicrap and bonded ADSL lines look like child's play, but we will have to wait and see...
