So we're having a wee issue with our VW Sharan.

Some guy did not assembled the front loxk properly, resulting in it breaking completely.

And the rear door lock also went the same route.

Is it possible to get a replacement tumbler for both locks?

Do anybody know of scrapyards that may stock Sharan parts?

I want to try that direction before going to a locksmith and asking for help.

Regards

Post pictures, It's hard to tell what exactly are you looking for.

Some of those parts are not exactly specific to a certain model and are generic across many cars even of different manufacturers, you just have to find the right fit.

Excellent suggestion.

Will do. I will disassemble both and post pix.

Thanx

As promised, pictures of both the locks. For bandwidth considerations, all images shown are thumbnails. Clicking on them will open the full image.

This part seems to be broken.

Also, what seems to be missing is this part :

edit : Due to it being in a disassembled state when I investigated the issue, I don't have a Clue on how to put the spring and clip back together. The original clip is lost forever :(

problem 1.jpg
On the one part (on the left) there's two grooves, which should've got matching studs (or ridges or whateveryoumaycallit) on the lock, both these got sheared off somehow. Don't ask me how.

problem 2.jpg
These should fit together like shown above. When you turn the key, the big part does not turn at all due to the missing studs/ridges etc.

rear detail.jpg
What it looks like assembled. The reed switch in the bottom left is for triggering a motorized unit which unlatches the door so you can open it.

The view you'll see most of the time (minus the bodywork and trim).

edit : This was a doddle to disassemble and find the problem.

Now I have a couple of options :

1. Go to Ali Baba and his 40 henchmen (original VW agents) and get replacement locks and doodahs for $$$.
2. Go to a scrapyard, and take the locks from an existing car, then to a locksmith to adjust them so we'll be able to use one key for all the locks.
The locksmith is optional as we won't mind having two keys to the car.
Also a bit $$$ but not as expensive as option 1.
3. Rear lock I can try to gue or modify so it'll be able to unlock/open the car.
4. ????

Both locks also enable or disable the alarm when you lock (enable) or unlock (disable) the car.

Looks more complicated than I thought, it's going to be a challenge getting it to work, especially with the electronics that goes with it. Get a quote from VW and hear what they say.

Scrapyards are usually useless for scarce cars such as the Sharan, but it's worth a try I guess.
