2007/2008 Fa Cup Thread

i think if they can get sagna back and keep adebayor fit they will but i have a funny feeling arsenal's season is about to collapse

their defense is nothing short of shocking, fabresgas should go and play in the league one championship i dont know whats happened to him but the first of the season he was a legend now you dont see him

I disagree.. The defense is solid if the two full backs are there..

Hoyte and Traore arent first team players, and this was the first time in over a month Gallas and Toure played together.. not looking for excuses but if you put into perspective and forget about last nights game
sagna - the best buy of the season, so solid at right back and consistent
clichy - solid and consistent, and id rate him above evra
toure and gallas are awesome too.. gallas was a bit weak last night but take into consideration the only experience at the back was him and toure.. hoyte was really bad and needs more game time

im saying that their defence against united was shocking

sagna and clithy will be key to arsenal's success, to me it looks as if they miss one of those 2 they will be trouble and if you consider the fact arsene has no cover for sagna and clithy i would worry

arsenal needs to start spending the money that they make on a few extra players because they basically prey nobody big gets injured because they have no cover for said player

i mean if lets say adebayor does not play who is going to score their goals?

i mean if lets say adebayor does not play who is going to score their goals?

Eduardo ;) maybe not this season but the next...
Also if RvP can get off the injury bench long enough he can be as prolific as Ade.. Same goes for Rosicky..

no nivek adebayor is the reason arsenal is where they are

he creates goal's from nothing man, i would say its very hard to choose who is better ronaldo or adebayor, the man is a legend

eduardo is good but only when adebayor is playing, you saw against united they had 0 attacks i dont even think van der sar had to parry a ball away

you guys are just lucky he does not get injured alot

yea van persie even if he comes back before the end of the season wont be good because he has been out for so long

i want arsenal to go strong because chelsea and united have a good chance of catching them

chelsea could still win the league if arsenal and united draw and they beat arsenal and united

im so excited about the end of this season going to be amazing with some huge games that actually will mean something in terms of who wins the league

they do have four games which will be hard for them i think

liverpool
chelsea
united
everton

now united and chelski do as well

all chelsea need is for united arsenal to draw
beat united
beat arsenal and hope the arsenal and united drops points against liverpool

bare in mind chelsea now have a full strength team and drogba is back, who knows maybe chelsea pull a sneaky move :)

Giant-killing Barnsley secured their place in the quarter-finals after expelling Liverpool in a 2-1 triumph over the Reds on Saturday.

United Chelsea final anyone? :)

no plz not again

i dont think i could bare another united chelsea final :(

would rather see them play bristol or something would be more entertaining than the last game

1 sat through nearly 120 minutes to see united lose to chelsea after not playing attacking football

I agree. That was pretty awful! Even the possibility of a Double didn't seem to make us any more keen to go out and win the game. Bring on Bristol!

yea i dont mind sitting through a game of entertaining football but watching united play it safe and still lose was a bitter pill to swallow

go out and try to win because what good does a defensive setup do when you lose anyway :)

I rather enjoyed the final last year, the game wasn't brilliant, but putting one over Fergie always feels nice!!!

FT United 0-1 Portsmouth

The most one-sided game I have ever seen. Portsmouth had maybe one attack in the 2nd half.

Sir Alex Ferguson slammed referee Martin Atkinson's performance as Manchester United's treble dreams went up in smoke in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford.

United had the better of the chances against Portsmouth but Sulley Muntari's penalty proved the difference as the visitors snatched a 1-0 win.

Muntari faced Rio Ferdinand in the United goal after Tomasz Kuszczak, who replaced the injured Edwin van der Sar, was shown a red card for bringing down Milan Baros.

But it was a penalty that was not given that incensed Ferguson, with Cristiano Ronaldo appearing to have been fouled by Sylvain Distin early in the match.

'It's absolutely ridiculous,' Ferguson told MUTV. 'I cannot explain it. Managers get sacked because of things like that and he's going to referee a game next week.'

The United boss, who also felt Atkinson was too lenient on Portsmouth fouls, laid the blame at the door of referees' chief Keith Hackett.

'He's not doing his job properly and he needs to be assessed,' said Ferguson. 'I'm assessed as a manager, players are assessed, referees should be assessed properly by the right people. That performance today should not be accepted by our game.'

Ferguson, however, had no complaints about the spot-kick awarded to Pompey and red card for Kuszczak.

'It was a penalty kick,' he said. 'The boy Kuszczak had to do his best but I'd rather he let him score and then we'd still have 11 men on the pitch.'

The United boss called for a response from his team when they resume their hunt for the Barclays Premier League title against Derby next weekend.

'It has to have an impact, the impact is we've got to do something about it,' he added. 'The determination, the energy from their team showed us something.'

Harry Redknapp claimed Portsmouth reaped the benefits of sticking to their gameplan.

'It's fantastic,' he told Sky Sports One. 'To come here today it was the worst draw of the lot. It was a great performance. We worked, we had a plan and we stuck with it.

'You always have to ride your luck, they are a fantastic team. They are different class. We deserved our luck.'

Redknapp also saluted the result, which he dedicated to the club's fans.

'It's a great day, great for the fans, I am delighted for them.'

Pompey keeper David James, who played his part in keeping United at bay, added: 'We rode our luck a little bit. It was a great effort.'

Defender Sol Campbell paid tribute to United, who had made it difficult for the visitors.

He said: 'They are a great side. They kept on getting behind and getting in crosses so we really had to defend.'

From soccernet.

That ref was pretty dire. Linesman could've flagged as well.
