@ R23 /G even my Gran is on Skype now because of the cuts in data, my noob brothers are getting the butts kicked around in BF2 online instead of running around looking for faulty multi-player mods...
In defense of Hans - the article was written at least a month ago (print publication) and all of these savings did not filter through yet...

Wow - so you got some R300pm 4Mbit uncapped unthresholded unshaped stable connections from companies guaranteed to be around in 1 years time, to point me to? If not, you're the one who is muddling things and are confused.
The man is 100% correct. He's on our side. He's saying that thing still suck and that's true.
For one, the big players - IS, Verizon, MWEB, Vodacom, MTN, iBurst, Telscum, etc; continue to charge exorbitant rates for connections.
Why give people 4Mbit/sec uncapped for under R500pm when you can still charge them R2.5-3K for such a product? Some will pay. Others will settle with lousy R250+ 1-2GB accounts.
Uh.... yeah.
In other top news today, R300pm uncapped.
R300 for 256K is not broadband. We've had iBurst offering R200 for 1GB + 64k uncapped (1/4 of that 256k for ages, since before Seacom was even planned).
(Don't forget to add Telkom charges to that).

According to this definition from Wiki, 256K is broadband in South Africa.
LOL. I don't want to argue with you but if you frequented this forum for as long as I have you'd know that the definition of 'broadband' has been debated here before extensively.
The ITU says it is 1.5-2.0Mb/sec. The DOC here is using a dumbed down definition for Telkom to push their under 4Mb/sec services as 'broadband', but then anything faster than dial up could also be broadband and that means iBurst uncapped, at 64kbps is also broadband.
ADSL was introduced in 2003/4 and 348kbps and 512kbps have been with us since then, all the while the world has moved to 20-50Mbs in Europe and even 1Gbs in Asia.
As is, the current players who are giving relatively cheap deals are all new - and it's been said that their efforts are not sustainable. The problem is between SEACOM and the end user. These pipes need major upgrades it seems and that is going to cost a lot, and we're going to be sitting with expensive internet for a long time. 256kbps uncapped is not something to get excited over in 2009, it was something to get excited over in 2004 though.
Point me to 4Mbps uncapped, un-thresholded, 365 days per year for R500 and less and I'll say we arrived.
