Basically what can you get for 200K these days?
I am thinking of one of the 2, that are basically the same?

Toyota Starlet
Suzuki Baleno

What else is worth it these days, that will last at least 10 years.

Do not want something more then 30K on the speedometer clock, or below 2020 year.

Should I buy cash or finance 50K

They are literally the same car the only difference I could find was on the top spec the Baleno comes with a 360 camera where the Starlet comes with rear camera only
Entry spec is exactly the same.
a quick search has shown more Starlets for sale that Balenos

Will a car last 10 years?
Yes if its maintain correctly with quality serviceable items, preventative maintenances also done. Car is driven "normally" and cared for, having all the fluids changed on time not just oil
No if service intervals are ignored, you use the cheapest serviceable items, ignore preventative maintenance , you rev the guts out to get it up to speed

I'm kind of in the same market, Baleno is definitely top of my list.

My only concern is what the car market is going to look like in 10 years?

What are the resale options going to look like for a 10 year old non-hybrid? What is the petrol price going to be? A relatively economical car like a 1.5 Baleno might be deemed a gas-guzzler at that point?

But then again, if you are in the 200k range and you keep the car for 10 years, how much does the resale really matter? you would surely have extracted a lot of value out of your money 10- years down the line?

Vehicle listed on site for R200K, then received a quote for R218K. I am thinking all extra's can be disputed except for delivery fee and lisence and registration? Basically 5k for smash and grab and 5K administration fee is less 10K.

Jirre this pisses me off. Wasn't this regulated a few years ago?
Problem is these cars are in demand so they have the upper hand. I'd still play the dealers against each other for your business.

this is a popular car with ample stock so negotiating will always be on the table. Just tell them you want to pay 190k all inclusive and then take the negotiation from there. You should land up at 195k all inclusive. If this dealer is not budging then just email 10 or so random dealers around with your bottom line number and then wait for the offers to come in. Some patience and sticking to your guns can save your thousands in the long run. Also, car salesman are another breed so don’t believe their kak stories about no margin, “no money” in the deal, taking a loss etc etc BS.

Smash and grab really R5k these days?
Last time I paid for it, it was just over R2k.

R10k for the stealership, this on top of margin on the car itself!
Talk about buttering it from both ends.

they lekker mad with the R5000 smash and grab,
i had my car done a few months ago at a reputable shop for R1600
At least that's something you can point at, expensive as it is but what administration are they doing that cost R5000? What about the delivery fees? At most it will be R500 worth of petrol and a car wash, where is the rest of the money disappearing to?
