200Mb op Openserve

here is some results from a 200Mbps Afrihost priority uncapped account

That's not good. What do you get on fast.com? Maybe contact Cool Ideas and ask if you can run tests on a test account. You're paying more than the cost of their 200Mbps account, and their network is rock solid. Unshaped, unthrottled, uncapped without a FUP and not subject to a congested network.

If you upgrade to 200mbps, does the ONT (not sure what it’s called) need to be upgraded as well?

Obviously the modem I got from Afrihost only had a 100mbps WAN port so that won’t be sufficient anymore.

Not too bad speeds though. Local speeds are on par for a 200/100 Openserve line.

Local speeds aren't enough to ensure a great internet experience though. International should be much better than that. Especially when a superior yet cheaper alternative exists.

I have to assume not. Would be disastrous to limit all ONT's to 100Mbps.

I bet if he downloaded a torrent with only international peers or a multi threaded http download he will max the line. As far as i can see speeds are fine. Might just be a Afrihost international issue or congestion but speeds seem fine.

Yeah, but it's also not good enough to only receive full speed with multithreaded operations. Not all online activities run multiple threads. And again, if there is an alternative service that is both cheaper and better then it's insanity to settle for less.

I guess so but even I can't get 100Mbps international speedtests and I'm on a completely unshaped uncapped fibre line with aeonova360.

No one would expect him to receive local speeds internationally, but there is a reasonable limit to how far speeds should dip. 171Mbps to London is fine, but 96 and 60Mbps to the US sucks.

I guess so but I get like 50 to NY and 35 SF so yeah but I get full speed on all my downloads ect so I know it might just be TCP.

Anybody know about the isp Afrika prices for line for 200mb ? Also would a capped Adsl data account work run at full speed in free data times like example Vox fat pipe

ISPAfrika 200Mbps Openserve line rental only (no data) : R999 per month

I would stay away from Vox... I wanted to use Vox fatpipe on my 100Mbps Openserve line, and they told me there is no trial period, but said I could get a refund within X (forget) days if I was not happy. I signed up and the account was perfect for a week, and then went to hell with bad packet loss. Their support was BEYOND useless, taking days to reply, getting me to run useless tests despite me showing them all the tests in the first email, and then ignoring me further. I eventually demanded to speak to somebody in management who said the fatpipe accounts are "provisioned differently" and won't work on openserve fibre!!! This is despite it working perfectly for the first week. After stringing me along for a month they refused to refund my money, and further made me pay for another month because of a 30 day cancellation policy.

What's the benefit of doing the ISPAfrika line trick these days? All ISP's now host fibre lines and the bundle prices save a lot of money.

1TB Vox grandfathered account + R999 200Mbit line for my 'rents.

I have a couple 100Mbps fiber lines running off the same openserve account... each of the lines has varying bandwidth usage (starting from 15GB)

Edit: It also makes changing ISP data accounts a breeze!

I have the vox R164 for 400gb promo account . It’s seems to work fine on my 100mb line

On openserve I am pretty sure it is the cheapest deal with ISPAfrika

Like I said, it worked absolutely fine for the first week. Vox were the ones who absolutely insisted it would never work - I guess they couldn't find the problem at the time.

two examples:

We had noticed that you are utilizing an ADSL package on a Fibre link.
This could be the reason for packet loss coming from the account as these are provisioned differently on the VOX network

Kindly advise if we can get our sales department to contact you, in order to assist you with an Fibre package.
Please note that moving onto a Fibre package will improve your connection.

Your current ADSL Data package, is not suitable and compatible to work on your current FTTH Fibre Link.

ADSL Data Packages are provisioned differently from FTTH packages.
- Thus, there will be a compatibility issue.
- You will not receive correct speeds and your expectations for this package being used on the FTTH Fibre link will not be met.

No need to upgrade the ONT. Currently busy upgrading my home connection to a 200Mbps cool idea account. Will post some result once done.

PBCOOL just informed me that the exchange does not support 200Mbps :(

So much for the Opnserve press release saying "Openserve 200Mbps is available to all fibre users"
