2010/2011 Transfer Thread

Thats an odd one that. We let go Joe Cole and buy a 30 year old instead.

Probably because Cole was so injury prone, and Benayoun didn't cost a lot (certainly less than I expected)

Benayoun is also injury prone and is one of the reasons Rafa didn't play him too often. I reckon he will be used as an impact sub and as a stop-gap measure to some of the younger players getting more games under their belts in the next few seasons.

Either that or daddy Abramovich is looking to give away one last fat paycheck to another midfielder. Veron, Ballack, Deco...

Sjoe I'll take Ozil anyday of the week. Dunno where he'd play but we'd make a plan :)

Seems like he can play anywhere across the middle... He pops up on the left a lot, but a little bit on the right as well. He is definitely strongest through the center though. Hope Wenger tries to sign him!!

I'm new to this site and glad I found this thread.

Anyways this summer transfer window is going be like all other Arsenal transfer windows, quiet. I wonder if Wenger is aware of what's happening at Man City (Silva, Boateng & Toure). I'm growing tired of waiting.

Position wise mate, no doubt he'll make the starting lineup in a heart beat. He's rated as an attacking midfielder which United don't play with and I'd like to see him in his favoured position.

Dude... isn't it obvious? He'd have the freedom to roam the park and he would basically take over Scholes' creative role. If he moved to Chelsea... then it would be easy, Ancelotti would place him smack-bang at the tip of his favoured diamond formation and have Essien and Lamps supporting him form a bit deeper in midfield.

Arsenal were first for Oezil but with all the exposure, he'd be priced out of an Arsenal move. But who knows what's really gonna happen wit Cesc. I hope Spain wins the WC and Cesc will be content with that trophy for 4 years n not wanna move.

Doubt it - if anything it'll make his thirst for trophies that much more pronounced. The great players only want to win... you'd better hope Spain crash out to ze Germans...

I'm just asking... haven't checked the news vine in a while and maybe you got some info to which that was related...

Nah, but I thought it a bit relevant to the whole Silva transfer to City. Kinda the same thing I guess.

Yeah - but Silva actually has more incentive to move than either Ade or Tevez or anyone else they bought in the last transfer window. Firstly - Man City have laid the foundations for a league winning side. Second, he's not the first big name player to come to them (Tevez, Adebayor, Robinho and Toure cleared the path so to speak... and with Tevez's and Robinho's performances in this World Cup... you have to say they have at least two genuine world class players in their ranks so he won't feel like he's "the only one there" like Robinho must have felt like when he first arrived. Third and most important of all, Valencia really need the money. He's doing them as much of a favour as he is to himself by taking a huge paycheck. He's still young enough (24 I think) to move to a better club in a few years if things aren't all going according to plan.

This article illustrates clearly how little value we should place on all the transfer rumours:

marseille coach didier deschamps hints hed like to sign arsenals Nasri

Note the leading question and the reply:

When asked whether he'd like to see Nasri return to his club, Deschmaps replied, according to L'Equipe: "Why not? But I think he is doing well exactly where he is!

And from there they get to a headline which says that he hinted that he would like to sign Nasri.

Now the next paper will quote Goal.com and leave out the question and the response and simply say that Deschamps has hinted that he wants to sign Nasri.

Bunch of a**holes these journalists. And it is not only Goal.com.
