I've been hearing rumours of flights being super expensive during the period which the Worldcup is taking place and thought I'd put it to the test:

To fly from JHB to Cape town currently costs approx. R1200 return, whereas during June/July it costs R4000 return.

To fly from JHB to London return costs approx. R5500 whereas in June/July it costs R10800!

Shouldn't it be considered unethical somehow? I understand that everybody is trying to make a return on all their investments towards preparations for the cup, but bloody hell, it feels like they're over doing it!

It is not just local flight, you can be sure international flights from all the over world will put their tickets up.

As mentioned supply and demand.

And also reaching the R12000 price range.... for a flight from JHB to CPT.

The biggest problem is that the airlines have not released the cheaper seats for June/July at this stage.
I have people paying R12000+ for london flights.

It is a reality, you either pay now or later when it is more expensive or don't go.
/shrug

Is it true that flights out of SA during the World Cup will be much cheaper? Trying to get the planes full at least to bring in more tourist?

uuum, yeah, also slightly confused... shouldnt flights out of SA at the start of the WC and flights into SA at the end of the WC be cheaper than normal?
