I love Jeff Radebe's comment about the A380 that did some tests at OR Tambo airport :

A lot of money had been invested in preparing South Africa for 2010 and "this trial is an indication we are ready to host all our visitors.

An A380 does some tests and a few touch and goes and that's an indication that "we are ready"?!
What about the stadiums that aren't built, the taxi recap program that's on shaky ground, the roads that are jammed full of traffic, the high levels of crime, etc. ?
This is just hilarious to watch. :D

Sigh. ANC stalwarts have to defend 2010. It's the one and only touchstone showing that things are supposedly going well in SA. They have no other points.

Sad thing is, if the .gov fails and 2010 gets taken away, the ANC can just blame it on "the First World's typical disregard for Africa". More anti-white sentiment, less votes for the 'white' opposition, more of the "save us from the world" mentality, more votes for the incompetents who will have failed them.

Makes me sleepy*.

Politicians always like to use some dramatic project or event as an indication of how everything else is going, sad thing is it probably convinces a lot of people.

Maybe that explains Nqakula's statement then, they're just setting the stage for their PR campaign if it does get taken away.

We always settled arguments with Aussies in this fashion :

Space Race : South Africa 1 Austalia 0

End of argument - Aussies to buy Saffers more beer. :)

Not to mention deeper alliances with countries like Iran, North Korea, and China.
