Anyone own a new 2011 iMac and having an issue with HDD noise?

Mine is seriously noisy. Kinda ruins having such a silent machine

every time I do something it grumbles like an empty stomach.

Is this normal? Should I just leave it?

Its freaking annoying to say the least. Would have thought with all the effort Apple went into making such an amazing machine they could have at least put in a quiet HDD :(

That sucks. But it is normal, yeah. It's sort of Apple's fault for making such a quiet computer in the first place. It's pretty hard to open that sucker up and replace it with a quieter hard drive, or SSD. All I can suggest otherwise is try dampen the vibrations going to your desk. I don't notice my time capsule when it's on the ground, but it rumbles a lot when I keep it on my desk.

Yeah there is no clicking so not to worried about the health of the drive, it is just so annoying. I guess on a normal desktop PC the fans are loader than the HDD read/write noises.

Flip this noise is driving me nuts! Have to pump my music to try drown it out. Such a pity. :(

You can't really replace it on your own, Apple's seen to that by using drives with custom firmware.

However - see if you qualify for a drive replacement from apple - http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/

Our records show that this iMac does not have a Seagate hard drive, and it’s not affected by this program. No further action on your part is needed at this time.

:( or :D - not sure which to be.

Is it only the 1TB drives they replacing? My 500 gig isn't noisy but i regret not buying an SSD. Whats the iStore charge for that sort of work ?

Dunno what speed/rpm drive is in there but I have found the samsung green drives pretty quiet & cool running.

Gotten used to the noise. Still annoying though.

Is it possible to have a SSD installed by Apple?
