I'm considering buying a 2012 Audi 2.0 TDI SQUATRO, but my concern is the mileage which is just over 140 000 and this being a diesel car.
1. Is there any known problems with this model?
2. Any advice on what to look out for
3. What is the fuel consumption like, I see a lot of different numbers on the net
4. Apart from mechanical issues is there any other common failures to look out for?

I thank you all in advance.

Engine would be fine probably looking at 7L/100km.

The problem would be the s-tronic transmission.

Problem would be the Multitronic transmisssion, but since this one has the S-Tronic transmission ( Audi speak for DSG) it should be fine if it was serviced every 60 000km

Clutches can still fail randomly, which can be costly. Need make sure everything is checked in that department.

S-tronic mechatronic unit pre-2013 also had a number of issues and is quite costly to replace/repair.

Yup! Mine failed at 80 000km.

Those engines are quite good.
Make sure you pay attention to the transmission when testing.

Look out for:
Rough gear changes
Long delay when changing
Car lurching forward (you can expect this when engaging the brakes hard enough at a stop to engage hill hold though)

I went to view the car and it turns out to be a manual and not a Auto (S Quatro), is this the Multitronic that is mentioned here?

Now i have an otpion of a 2.0T auto petrol for the same year and a 2.0 Diesel manual (100k mileage)

it turns out the vehicle is a manual, what is the common issue with the transmission?

I will be taking a mechanical warrantee i hope this will be covered.
Aftermarket warranty will cover some of it, maybe not everything depending on cover. As milage is on the higher end the value it cover might not be ebough. You want around 40k covered for gearbox I would say.

Is this on the manual gearbox

Just to close out the thread. I eventually bought the 2.0 TDI manual transmission and as my luck would have it, it is still sitting at the audi dealership with some drive shaft issues, a month later.

I have discovered that the car has had the following change under warrantee.
- Turbo replaced at 70 000km (warantee)
- Clutch replaced at 60 000km (Warantee)
- Conrods at 60k km
- Now the whole drive shaft was overhauled with both the inner and outer CV redone

So I had a moment where I wanted to cancel the deal and find a different Q5 but I think if all of this important bits are replaced my thinking is that this same parts shouldn't fail that many times. So I'll only have to worry about the cambelt in the next 20 000km.

Return it, no normal car needs a turbo replaced at 70k. Most probably there is another issue. Also cam belt? Get something with a chain.

But I am avoiding the 2.0 TFSI petrol, and I believe it is only the petrol that comes with the chain for a timer beltd
