Whats Up With The Year 2012?

Everybody's talking about it! Ok, not everyone, most people don't even know what the hell I'm talking about, but the year 2012 is being talked about.

Theres even a movie being released soon:

2012 is an upcoming disaster film directed by Roland Emmerich. The film has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver; the films release date is expected to be November 13, 2009 worldwide.

A global cataclysm occurs which leads to the end of the world and has survivors struggling for their lives, while a US government agency called the "Institute for Human Continuity" attempts to use ships to ensure the survival of the human race.

The film is inspired by several hypotheses that state that the ancient Mayan predicted a doomsday event would occur sometime around the 2012 northern hemisphere winter solstice.

The message the film is sending is utter crap, and so will the film be. The doomsday hypothesis comes from religious interpretations.

2012 is the change over from the age of pisces to the age of aquarius. Nobody really knows for sure what will happen. There are many theories.

People with tinfoil hats who worship ancient cultures as the epitome of technology seem to think the world will end. All because they couldn't count beyond 2012 and save their own civilisation :)

Man I wish something would happen. Sadly nothing will. Its fueled by imagination and a longing for a happier life and maybe after that time it will come true. Heck, even I wondered it. Truth of the matter is we will still need to pay our bills. Still try and avoid cancer or other illnesses. And still get stuck in traffic and lament telkom.

I think it would be an interesting poll to see why people are interested in 2012. Get them to explain why it excites them.

Also 2012 has the following numbers in it, 0, 1, and 2, and the total amount of different numbers used are 3, which follows on in the sequence.
Also note the first number 2, is the same as the last number and starting from the zero, doubling up the following numbers equal the next in line.
Yet another weird prediction, the first number predicts the last number.
And the first and last numbers added together equal the total amount of numbers the date.

Seriously what are the chances that the Malayan's could come up with something like this unplanned? They must have known something and that is why The Church sent the Conquistadors to stamp out this knowledge.

Perhaps the Mayan calendar maker dude just died and couldn't finish his job. I personally don't think anything will happen, but i'm buying tinned food just incase.
