not sure if it will be available for us though? they doing region by region, I would imagine to stop too much server load

I can't see any mention of regions. They only stated the 8.1 upgrade will be available today at 13:00 (Friday New Zealand time) on the Windows app store. I see a large number of newspapers from a number of countries (including news 24) reporting the release date as today.
From tomorrow new PCs will be sold with it and it will be available in store.

I am using Eset 6 as well. I hope this is fixed already with the retail release today. Hopefully they made some changes since you downloaded.

Will give it a skip. 8.0 and 8.1 are both crap. Sticking to something that works well, windows 7.

If you mouse-over the download it shows the percentage, 0% for the last few minutes ;0)
