Don't allow them to stripe the car, it will make you look silly.

Seriously though, they are doing what dealerships do best, trying to scam you out of your money, engine light, no power loss but they are talking about stripping the engine? take the car to some place for a diagnostic report, get the fault codes and take it from there.

I had no choice , I had the extended warranty from SA warranties they advise to take my car to the vw dealership. the bill now is currently 20K and they only approve 12K. these aftermarket extended warranties are another scam.

So what's wrong with the car?

IF the engine light comes on, something electrical could pick up an issue. NOt necesary an electrical fault, but some sensor picked up something. SO they have the general area allready specified. And if you can drive with no power loss, no weird sounds and so, that could point to electrical. Mechanical you would hear or see . R6000 to strip would seem like 5 hours of striping labour. pfft.
SO yup, they are taking you for a ride.

I had this fault on my 16valve jetta. It traced to a problem with a connector on the cable loom behind the dashboard. It was a sort of "catch all" error indicator and may have nothing at all to do with the engine. This issue arose after the car was stolen and recovered.

The choice is very simple, you either make an effort to learn more about your car and get your hands dirty or you get shafted by the dealer.

Go to a mechie with a diagnostic machine. It doesn't sound bad if there's no power loss or electrical faults.

VW are trying to shaft you.

Could be some silly sensor, take it 3rd party RMI approved mechanic.

Sorry but the RMI is a toothless scam. I have had to engage them twice in my years of vehicle ownership and both times the mechanic gave both me and the RMI the middle finger and the RMI just looks over and shrugs.

Waste of time and money (they charge approx R350 for their "mediation.")

Get a independant diagnostic test done and get the error code.

Yellow light is nothing big wrong usually .

Google error for possible problem identification

A red engine warning light is the one to worry about.
