To be honest, I wasn't entirely happy with this, but I say that it needs some more oomph- the purity of the Type R is long gone...
I'm not happy with it either. A high revving v-tec was always their party piece. It's sad that NA engines with character seem to be a dying breed and are being replaced with mundane turbo engines that are not much different to the next manufacturer.
I have an idea, V6 with small bore to reach 1.8-2L, slap a turbo/sc on and make it rev to the moon, yes?

Looks like the new R will have a redline of 7000 RPM. Not too bad. Only 1000 RPM lower than N/A.
This disappoints me, my 8th gen civic sedan has a redline as close as damn to 7,000 RPM, was hoping for a bit more from the new R.
Still looking forward to this though.![]()
Well, I think we should not make too much of the videos and images right now. Honda say they still have 2 years of development left. So a lot can change in that time. They are even putting in false engine noises. So maybe the 7000rpm red line seen in the vid is also a sham. They are even talking about a dual clutch auto box. So who knows. I just love the hype around this car. Lots of testing, videos, and no one really knows what it is going to be like.
The current shape of the civic isnt the best looking, with exception to the front.
Myself I wasnt a fan how ever its one of those cars that changes your opinion the more you see it.
After watching the BTCC I have to admit that the kit they have on Matt and Neal's cars transforms the look of the current civic, and if I dare say, makes it stand out more than the FN2 shape.
If Honda decide to limit the engine to 7000 rpm, which I doubt they will, then your options are simple..
Keep your FN2, fit a bolt on Rotrex SC kit from TDI North, LSD (for those that dont have the champ ed) along with a Flashpro from Chris @ Rormula R Motorsport and you have yourself a reliable 225WKW hot hatch that revs to 8500 RPM
The GTi Ed 40?
2 years of development for a hot hatch? A bit OTT IMO.
Hasshi moved to reassure fans of the Honda brand that the move to a turbocharged engine would not spell the end of the brand's characteristic high revving nature.
Really? You think 2 years is a lot? I think it is perfect, Make sure they do not make the same mistakes as they made with the FN2. That was merely a K20 engine slapped in the old shape. The new one is being tested on the N'ring, and I think it will come out being the best hatch around.
