2015 Civic Type R

To be honest, I wasn't entirely happy with this, but I say that it needs some more oomph- the purity of the Type R is long gone...

I'm not happy with it either. A high revving v-tec was always their party piece. It's sad that NA engines with character seem to be a dying breed and are being replaced with mundane turbo engines that are not much different to the next manufacturer.

Looks like the new R will have a redline of 7000 RPM. Not too bad. Only 1000 RPM lower than N/A.

I have an idea, V6 with small bore to reach 1.8-2L, slap a turbo/sc on and make it rev to the moon, yes?

VW evolution design I can understand, this one looks the same and in my opinion not the best selling Civic...

A naturally aspirated type R would have been interesting, but the previous one went out of production because they could not make this engine type meet emission regulations. They are changing to a 2.0 L turbo engine putting out 276 bhp. This is apparently based on their WTC engine.

Looks interesting, except that the rear spoiler is right in the middle of the rearward visibility. Wonder how much Honda would charge to remove it?

Pretty much. The car has gone from the special vehicle that it was, to just another hot hatch. Assembly line production FTW...

This disappoints me, my 8th gen civic sedan has a redline as close as damn to 7,000 RPM, was hoping for a bit more from the new R.

Still looking forward to this though. :)

Well, I think we should not make too much of the videos and images right now. Honda say they still have 2 years of development left. So a lot can change in that time. They are even putting in false engine noises. So maybe the 7000rpm red line seen in the vid is also a sham. They are even talking about a dual clutch auto box. So who knows. I just love the hype around this car. Lots of testing, videos, and no one really knows what it is going to be like.

The GTi Ed 40?
2 years of development for a hot hatch? A bit OTT IMO.

The current shape of the civic isnt the best looking, with exception to the front.
Myself I wasnt a fan how ever its one of those cars that changes your opinion the more you see it.
After watching the BTCC I have to admit that the kit they have on Matt and Neal's cars transforms the look of the current civic, and if I dare say, makes it stand out more than the FN2 shape.

If Honda decide to limit the engine to 7000 rpm, which I doubt they will, then your options are simple..

Keep your FN2, fit a bolt on Rotrex SC kit from TDI North, LSD (for those that dont have the champ ed) along with a Flashpro from Chris @ Rormula R Motorsport and you have yourself a reliable 225WKW hot hatch that revs to 8500 RPM

Mmmm, still not guaranteed with Honda. And they are not all that reliable. Been chatting to Bravo and some of the guys on the CivicType-R forum and everyone had an issue here and there. Also this would set you back at least R100 000. I would rather get the new R and then if needed, just crank up the boost a wee bit.

Really? You think 2 years is a lot? I think it is perfect, Make sure they do not make the same mistakes as they made with the FN2. That was merely a K20 engine slapped in the old shape. The new one is being tested on the N'ring, and I think it will come out being the best hatch around.

Here's another render with some different colors. Not very accurate, but looks good :)

I'll take it in Red again please!!

What's the point?
Less than 1% of owners will take it to the track.

VW also testing their golf R at N'ring, whilst production has started.

I would expect Hondas type r to be a full minute faster than the Golf R/Megane RS/focus Rs around that track for two years worth of development.

2 Fast 2 Furious!

I'm glad they're going turbo ... The previous Type R was a dog up here. Can't really be classed as a hatch with an acceleration north of 8 seconds to 100/km.h. Although they do look good
