Was the same when I bought my Fiesta - a similarly spec'ed Polo was far more expensive due to all the optional extras that are standard on the Ford.

Agreed base 7 GTI is lower spec the the ST3 but R500k to "up spec" to the level of the Focus; basically close to R90k worth of options to bring it to ST3 spec? Doubt it hey; I would say R~25k-30k imo

Xenon lights on GTI +/- R20K, Infotainment system another R20K, dual zone climate control R15K?

Bi-Xenon headlights package including LED tail lights = R10k; "Discover Pro" Radio with Satellite Navigation, USB & Bluetooth incl. map updates = R19600; then you beat the ST3 Focus.

Some other "nice" options are: Park Distance Control (Front & Rear) = R4,500; 19" Santiago alloy wheels= R7,650; DynAudio 300W Excite system = R8,350

So your figure is off my friend. In the Golf 5 GTI days VW were slimy ito of what they put in the stock car; from the G6 GTI onwards it has gotten better :)
 
It's still a VAG and I will never ever own one again. I had 4 in my life already. Lesson learnt.
 
Not having an automatic option crosses the focus off many people's lists. Manual gears just suck in modern city traffic.
 
Theres a new GTi out, saw it on Facebook yesterday, whats that one called?
It looks much better imo

Performance Pack; it's not a new car; just enhanced.

- 7kw more power than base 7 GTI
- bigger brakes
- standard LSD (not the drug)
- red GTI badging & calipers
