I haven't followed a season in a few years but am committed to following this season closely. After the first race I suspect that Rossi is in it to win it for the tenth time. I will post results and highlights from each race here.
I won't cover Moto2 and 3 here.

About the circuit
The fabulous Losail International Circuit lies on the outskirts of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. Built in little over a year, the track cost $58 million USD and required round-the-clock dedication from almost 1,000 workers in order to get it ready for the inaugural event - the Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar on the 2nd October 2004.

The track itself is a flowing layout of 5.4 kilometres, surrounded by artificial grass designed to prevent sand from the neighbouring desert from blowing onto the circuit. The main straight is over a kilometre in length and there is a good mix of medium and high-speed corners, including a couple of quick left-handers which has proved particularly popular with the riders.

In 2008 Qatar celebrated the first night time Grand Prix in history, following the construction of permanent outdoor lighting. The switch to night time racing was a success and has continued to be so, with the Qatar event now established as one of the most spectacular on the MotoGP calendar.

Total distance
118.4 km - 73.5 miles

Twas quite a race! You gotta love MotoGP, the overtaking, the way those guys ride, totally insane.
I saw the first race as well (Moto3 I think?) and that was epic as well. Guy that started the last lap first ended up 7th or something like that. And he's 15!
I don't watch every race, but I'm rarely disappointed when I do.
I'm an underdog fan, don't have a particular rider I follow, so was happy to see Valentino win.

Nice to see Dovi finishing on the podium. I DO suspect the Hondas will come into their won though...i hope not, but Marquez is something insane!!

Looking forward to this season immensely! Not only are the Yamahas quick, but the Ducatis are finally competitive too! Marquez, while still quick won't have it as easy as he did last season (at least I hope not).

EDIT: Mods, an idea to move this to the Sports sub section?

Freakin' Rossi.

Also, Marquez set a straight line speed record when he was clocked at 350.3 km/h. The hell do you see at that speed?

He is mental. He's going to kill at the Americas. It will be his hat trick there if he does and if I am not mistaken.

Ya, had this very conversation this morning. Those bikes are insanely fast. I remember watching the race when they showed in-gear speeds and thinking, that guy is in 3rd gear, and my bike can do those speeds (not acceleration though) in 3rd gear (was around 210km/h) and then the next moment you see the display is in 6th doing well over 340km/h, and I'm like, I can't even reach 100km/h that fast :(

I felt bad for the guy that lead the Moto2 race, Johann Zarco, I think. To basically lead the whole race and then have his shifter quit on him 3 laps before the end. That must have sucked big time.

All in all was excellent racing this weekend. Was really good to watch.

Really sucked for him. He had to finish using 3rd gear. Finished 8th. He rides well.

Rossi to win it? Bit too soon me thinks? We need a more realistic outlook on this season, as one of the top contenders made a mistake on lap 1 and didnt even feature. Sure, if Marquez does that each race...then ja..Rossi will most likely take the win this season :D I recon we will have a better idea after the first 3 races.

Oh...and those Ducati's....yoh, how quick they accelerate out that last corner on the straight! :wtf:

Last 2 laps were just beautiful!
I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about those last few laps.
I really thought Dovizioso was going to nail Rossi on the finishing straight on that last lap.

With you on that...the Yamaha seems like a solid all-around bike but can't match the acceleration of the Ducati. If Marquez hadn't had his oopsy on lap 1, I also think the Honda would have had a significant say on the podium places.

Rossi was outstanding...got that win with sheer force of personality. Lorenzo couldn't put equivalent pressure on Dovizioso for long enough...the result is more Rossi than bike (IMO) and over the course of the season I expect Honda and Ducati to occupy the podium more often.

Ja agreed, I think those Ducatis are going to be excellent contenders this season, which is fantastic news. Last season it got a bit less exciting after a while, as Marquez was just in another zone compared to the other guys - winning by big margins. This season it looks to be different (will see in first few races), and a lot more exciting! It's going to be epic thats for sure! :D

Cmon 93!....hehehehe :D

About the circuit
The Circuit Of The Americas is the first purpose-built Grand Prix facility in the U.S. near Austin, Texas, with a 5.513km track and a capacity for 120,000 fans. Construction of the impressive 1000-acre facility was completed late in 2012, with MotoGP lining up at the track for the first time in 2013. One of its more distinctive features is near 41m-elevation change with an impressive incline at the end of the home-straight followed by a sharp left. The circuit is one of the most varied on the GP circuit, with a mix of fast straights and tight hairpins, with most sections mirroring at least some part of a famous track around the world. It was designed by well-known German architect and circuit designer Hermann Tilke. The driving direction is counter clockwise and has a total of 20 corners with 9 right turns and 11 left turns.

Total distance
115.8 km - 72.0 miles

I loved this!! While Marquez runs to change bikes he loses pole and is 'running' out of tim. He just leans his bike against the pit wall, jumps over the wall and runs to get the spare!

No one is talking about the Qualifying that resulted in Marquez getting pole? That was the most epic set of events ever in the history of MotoGP
