I think you are mistaken, the 2.0l of the earlier 2000s models or/plus the 1.9tdi iirc.

Edit, never mind, I see you made an exception for the top of the range models.

Fine with the expected process as it's discs all round, and I'm replacing the discs\rotors with new Bosch units as well. Looks like once the pads and calipers off, the disk is only held on with one torques screw. Any specific oiling or greasing needed?

Total cost: R 2 649.95 Incl VAT
VW Quoted me R 5 987.36 Incl VAT For ATE brand.

And I KNOW the mechanics are trying to earn a living etc, they go on training etc, but, this job is not rocket-science this. Now that I've done it, the time to do this car is 2 1/2 hours EASILY. probably fast with a proper 4 post lift and pneumatic tools. So, to quote 4 to 6 hours is just bullsh1t! And then to say its 1 K per hour! FFS!

That means each technician should be taking home like 8 to 10 K per DAY!
They don't even take home HALF of that I'm certain.

Labour markup is off the scale!

Anyway. Hope my stuff here can help others to save some cash with your cars. Its really not difficult to do.

PS, I needed the brake pistol tool for the rear brakes. Had to resort to some bush mechanics.

Worked perfectly. Exact width for the two notches in the piston, and the wood was a great handle to push and twist. Cable ties held it all in place. Took about a minute to compress each piston. Then just slid over the new pads.. Sorted.
 
Tyre Mart in Claremont quoted me around R3000 for new ATE disks & pads all round for my 2015 Comfortline.

Good savings based on OP's quote from the stealership.

Question: my polo has done +-46000km, is it normal for it to need new brakes now? I'm not a particularly rough/aggressive driver.

46 000 sounds like a lot of kilometres, I wouldn't be surprised if they are worn.

the front will surely be in need of a change or close to at least.
 
My fronts were pretty good, so I'd assume they've been done just before when I purchased the car. Myt rears had JUST started hitting the metal, so it was perfect timing.
