By taking a peek at VW design philosophy I would hedge a fair amount of dosh that the new Polo would look at least 75% similar to the outgoing model. VW don't do all-new as Roux said.
The reason for my cynicism is that I can probably predict where VW is headed just by looking at their past designs...they have no interest in making a breathtaking revolutionary car, but by changing a headlight here and deleting a bodywork crease there they 'refresh' it without trying too hard to change the basic dynamics.
This might have been a strong point with them at first (the unchanging design formula) but I think that people elsewhere in the world do see them as slightly boring people movers, although your typical Safrican would disagree and is probably planning to burn me at the stake for my very comment.

Shift to MQB platform pretty much implies 'all new' inasmuch as that concept can be applied to an existing model range. Whilst the exterior will undoubtedly be evolutionary, one only needs to compare Golf V and VI to see how big a step that will be in terms of performance and refinement for the Polo range.
As an aside, those wheels were probably laying around in the R&D workshop; they're not used on any current production model any longer.

Dazzle camo meant to conceal lines, creases and edges. It was widely used in ye olde sea-based warfare to confuse enemies

Next-gen hot hatch will go up against 2017 Ford Fiesta ST and be available in just one bodystyle
The Volkswagen Polo GTI looks set for a power hike when the next-generation version arrives as a five-door-only model in 2017.
The future hot hatch is likely to use an evolved version of the current car’s 1.8-litre TSI engine, but output is expected to rise beyond that car’s 189bhp and 236lb ft of torque. The power boost should help the Polo GTI keep up with rivals such as Renault’s recently updated Clio RS and the next-gen Ford Fiesta ST.
The next Volkswagen Polo will be a larger car than the current model. Evidence of that can be seen in the longer roofline and rear overhang of the pictured test mule. But insiders say the new model will still be lighter than today's. All versions of the new Polo, including the GTI, will be sold exclusively in five-door guise.
As with the current Polo, the next-gen car will share several parts with the Audi A1, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia. Sources say the next Polo GTI could inherit more standard performance parts, bringing it closer into line with its sharper sibling, the Ibiza Cupra, which currently comes as standard with adjustable dampers.
The GTI is also expected to retain an XDS electronic locking differential system, which is shared with the Cupra and uses the brakes to tighten the car’s line through corners.
Like the today's model, the next-gen GTI is also likely to retain both its manual and automatic gearbox options. The Ibiza Cupra dropped its automatic option in the UK, but sales of automatic Polos have been stronger.
Although today’s photographed test mule is heavily camouflaged, it looks to have been given the same restrained styling as the current car, with only large-diameter wheels and a twin-exit exhaust system being clear signifiers of the car’s performance potential.
This design direction is unsurprising because the Ibiza Cupra has typically been the car from this Volkswagen Group family to flaunt the sportiest design. The Polo GTI has tended to mimic its larger sibling, the Golf GTI, with a more mature appearance.
