Hi guys, my Fiesta just went for its first service today and was told I need new wipers and brake pads.

According to Ford I can purchase my own Ford approved pads and they can fit them on for me, obviously charging labour. Just wanted to know if anyone knows what brands are Ford approved...just wanted to find out before I asked them incase they tell me of the more expensive ones.

They quoted me 2k for the brake pad job and 1k for wipers. Im sure I can replace my wipers for less?

Vehicle is on a service plan only. Service is every 20k km/ 12months.

Thanks in advance.

Wipers will be R200 +/- at midas

Brake pads will be R1000 +/- at Hi-Q, they will fit them for you also.

Damn thats a lot less! I knew dealerships inflated prices but by that much?! thats insane.

Thanks appreciate it! Was searching and it seems that the 'Youve only got 2k km left and then its steel on steel' line is used on everyone. lol

Still shocked and the price differences damn.

Just a question - is it your car's first service or your first service with the car?
New brake pads on a car with less than 20 000km seems excessive.

Cars first service, 19500 km. I thought so too, but I just assumed Ford uses k@k pads because my friend also changed her brake pads around her first service. But by the looks of it will only look at checking them in 6 months.

First service on a 2 year old car? And then new brake pads at the same time?

I'm hoping that you meant 1st service since you've owned it and not first service overall.

Brakes pads should be R400 at most with labour on top so I would do it elsewhere for sure. And R1000 wipers? They can **** right off with that too.

Also, only replace either of these if you genuinely believe they need replacement. Usually these are the exact type of items that will go on for another two services without issue.

Check them yourself with visual inspection, but unless they are squeeling or brake pad monitor light is on you can choose to do this at any time and not just when it's in for a service.

Brakes don't just magically stop working in three seconds, so if they tell you otherwise trust them even less.

First service should have been at 15,000 or 1-year so it seems somewhat overdue.

Either way pads should definitely not be gone by now and I would make a strong argument for a warranty claim.

But knowing these okes it's probably complete bull**** and doesn't need replacement at all.

Take a flash light and look into the caliper if possible...if you see a groove then they are talking complete and utter ***.

I would expect at least 50,000km from a pair of pads...even the ****test ones.

be careful with them, i do my brakes myself, and on my last service plane service they wanted to replace pads, cause its urgent they're almost finished, when those pads were a few months old since i did them myself. the next 3 services they did the same thing, even though i averaged 3k km per year, since it was a weekend car only.

If pads genuinely need to be done at the first service then tell them it must be done under warranty and inspected too since something is clearly wrong with the brake system.

Not exactly 2 years, got the car in early 2017. Due to moving from DBN to JHB I didnt get a chance to service it exactly at 12 months.

Yeah I know with pads you dont replace every service its not a part that lasts like less than 2 yrs, just thought Ford used crappy brakes that needed replacing every service. Beemer I used to drive replaced pads every 4yrs/5yrs (parents maintained it, now on my own). Yeah I know brakes take time to 'give up' which is what threw me off guard, because I have the same braking power that I've always had.

Oh! and they called and said theres a chip on the windscreen they want to fix it at 260 bucks, asked for pics the 'chip' is smaller than a pen nib. Think Im gonna try the Ford on William Nicol for my next service.

have a 2015 model the brake pad the car comes with is like cheese doesn't last at all, I changed to ferrado ceramics from midas for my model it costed R890.00 for the set. Changed it myself in under 5 minutes per side. These cars don't have the brake wear indicators like most other cars do. Don't get it done at the dealer you better off doing it yourself or at any other place.

Nah Fiesta Ecoboosts must be services either every 20k KM or 12 months. Sorry should have said it was an Ecoboost. Yeah I dont think they're gone, confirmed with my dad should have at least another year if not 2 in them.

So clearly Ford likes to create issues and then fork out a chunk from you, for nothing.

All cars have wear indicators built-in, it's just whether they are electronic or not.

In the case of mechanical ones that squeal you start hearing is actually the brake pad wear indicator as it's a piece of metal inside the pad surface designed to squeal against the disc.

Even so when the they start moaning there is still lots of pad left and I would honestly not change pads before that starts happening or I've visually confirmed they are close.

It is an absolute money making racket.

Aaah okay so you won't have warranty **** then.

Not on the ford when I removed the original pads there wasn't one I had to put in the one that came with the Ferrados.

Thanks for this post. My car is soon due for service and i'll know they bull****ting when they tell me this. (2017 Fiesta though should be same as yours)
Just a question, is all your other warranties in tact? The 100 000km factory warranty etc?

Also, i wanted to find out, will replacing brake pads, wipers etc. void any of the warranties or the service plan if you do it elsewhere? First time I have a vehicle with warranties so making sure before i do anything.

Lol that's Ford trying to get more money from you.

Go to Midas and ask for brake pads, buy the ones that are at least over R500. Whilst at Midas, ask for wipers. Everything should cost you less than R1800, parts and labour.

Becareful there is a brand in a red and yellow box they say its Italian brand that is worse as well rather put the extra few bucks and get decent ones like ATE Or Ferrado
