2016 Lexus LX 570

Lexus isn’t actually stingy when it comes to standard equipment. But the local arm of the Japanese automaker has seen fit to add even more standard kit to its CT, RX and LX ranges.

The CT200h, for instance, gains a new “digital media holder” housed in the centre console, which provides storage for portable music devices and easy interface via the built-in USB, auxiliary and Bluetooth systems.

The hybrid hatchback is now also available in four new two-tone colour paint combinations. With the roof and pillars finished in high-gloss black trim, the body can be specified in either White Quartz, Sonic Titanium, Mercury Grey or Morello Red. A new, single-tone Amber paintjob has also been added to the range, replacing the Fire Agate hue.

The Lexus RX450h SE, meanwhile, also benefits from a suitably fattened standard equipment list. Second-row passengers now enjoy electric seat adjustment and well as seat-heating. Up front, a “panoramic view monitor” replaces the reverse camera, offering the driver a wider field of vision.

Lastly, the Lexus LX flagship SUV now features a pre-crash electronic safety system that scans the road ahead, warning the driver of potential obstacles. Lexus says the system is also capable of taking corrective action, increasing brake pressure, closing windows and adjusting vehicle dynamics to prevent a collision.

The system includes adaptive cruise control, while lane-keep assist and an adaptive high-beam function are also now standard. To complement the latter system, sequential indicators are added.

Pricing:
Lexus CT 200h: R 506 400
Lexus RX 450h SE: R 1 175 600
Lexus LX 450d: R 1 600 700
Lexus LX570: R 1 648 200

New Lexus LX (but not Toyota Land Cruiser 300) to gain twin-turbo V8?

Fresh rumours claim the new Lexus LX will be offered with a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, a powerplant seemingly not on the cards for the closely related new Toyota Land Cruiser 300.

According to CarsGuide (leaning heavily on an @allcarnews post), a new twin-turbo eight-cylinder unit will replace the current naturally aspirated 5,7-litre V8 engine, which offers 270 kW and 530 N.m in the outgoing LX.

In addition, the fourth-generation LX is set to be offered with the Japanese firm’s twin-turbo 3,5-litre V6 petrol powerplant, which earlier reports suggested would also be employed by the Land Cruiser 300. In the Lexus, the V6 will likely be electrified.

New Lexus J201 concept is a supercharged LX570 for overlanders

Lexus has revealed its new J201 concept, a supercharged off-roader based on the LX570 (which itself is effectively a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 underneath).

Built in conjunction with Expedition Overland, the J201 concept boasts a number of robust suspension and equipment upgrades. Some extra oomph has been extracted from the engine, too.

The Japanese off-roader has been fitted with 4,30 Nitro Gears performance differentials at the front and rear together with a set of ARB air lockers. These are joined by stronger front-upper and rear-lower control arms. Front and rear spacers have been attached to the wheels to widen the track, too.

StopTech drilled front and rear discs plus Super Sport Performance pads have been added to the braking system for improved stopping power. A set of 285/70 R17 General Grabber X3 tyres with Evo Corse DakarZero wheels connects the overlander to the gravel.

Next Lexus LX go get twin-turbo motor with 358 kW – report

With the long-awaited reveal of Toyota’s Land Cruiser 300 having been revealed earlier this month, its Lexus LX cousin is not too far off and according to new reports out of Japan, it will be somewhat more powerful than the LC 300.

Japanese website Creative311 recently reported that the new LX750h model will be powered by a hybrid version of the 3,5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine found in the new LC 300, and which – incidentally – was a Lexus motor to start with. Assisted by an electric motor, the Lexus LX will reportedly offer outputs of around 358 kW and 870 N.m, which is 53 kW and 221 N.m more than what you get in the non-hybrid Toyota version. According to CarAdvice, the new 3,3-litre turbodiesel motor will also be offered as an option in the new-generation Lexus LX range.

Reader's Ride | This modified Lexus LX570 is an off-road beast you want to know all about

• Jacobus Vermeulen purchased a Lexus LX570 in 2020 and went about modifying it.

• The SUV is fitted with several aftermarket parts that Vermeulen has been praised for.

• Vermeulen says he wants to show that the LX570 is more than a pavement hopper.

Jacobus Vermeulen is a self-confessed off-road fanatic. On weekends, he passes time on the Atlantis Dunes or off-road tracks, and puts his modified Lexus LX570 through its paces any chance he gets. Born and bred in Cape Town, Vermeulen has always loved the outdoors and never missed an opportunity to explore with family and friends. Things took a turn for the better when he realised the wonders of off-roading, and so began plans to one day own his dream machine.

But why the LX570, though? Well, for Vermeulen, it was an easy decision to opt for this vehicle. As is common knowledge, this Lexus is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, which, as any petrol head will tell you, is one of the finest all-terrain vehicles around. However, in typical Lexus fashion, it boasts several improved luxury touches over the Toyota and is fitted with a massive 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine.

Vermeulen says that he was drawn to the LX570's understated demeanour and knew that it was exactly what he wanted: "This vehicle, although it has the same capabilities and underpinnings as a Land Cruiser 200, is mainly seen at malls and school runs, but never on 4x4 tracks or out in the wild. I wanted to change that."
