Mini Clubman Black Pack launched as UK-only exclusive
UK-only Black Pack gives interior and exterior black highlights, sat-nav, DAB and cruise control as standard
A Mini Clubman Black Pack has been launched exclusively for the UK market.
The new trim level slots in above the entry-level One trim but below the optional Chili Pack specification. It is marked out by piano black interior trim and black stripes, alloy wheels and mirror caps on the outside.
Inside, the Black Pack spec adds sat-nav, DAB, Bluetooth, cruise control and Mini’s connected service.
The Black Pack will be offered to British buyers only, and was designed specifically for the UK market. Unlike the formerly Spanish-market-only BMW M4 CS, which will now be sold in other markets following a Shanghai motor show reveal, there are no plans to take the Clubman Black Pack elsewhere.
Mini expects the Clubman Black Pack to account for around 10% of Clubman sales, and most of those are expected to add the Chili Pack to the car as well. The Chili Pack includes LED headlights, passenger seat height adjustment, rear parking sensors and upgraded upholstery materials.
A Mini spokesman revealed that Mini offers market-specific grades to multiple countries, which are tailor-made to the buying public of each. Global editions, such as the Mini Seven, are less common but do exist.
The Clubman Black Pack is available in Cooper and Cooper D forms and is priced from £21,430.

The Mini JCW Clubman is now available in South Africa! Take a look at specs and pricing for the newcomer...
Mini South Africa has expanded its Clubman range in South Africa with the addition of the John Cooper Works Clubman. According to Mini, the JCW Clubman “combines authentic race feeling with the most space, everyday practicality and long-distance suitability" ever seen in a JCW model.
The JCW Clubman is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine offering 170 kW and 350 Nm of torque and it’s mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while an 8-speed automatic transmission is offered as an option. The JCW Clubman also features a new generation ALL4 all-wheel drive system to ensure maximum traction. Both the manual and automatic accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 6.3 seconds. Mini claims a fuel consumption figure of 7.4 L/100 km for the manual while the automatic is more frugal with a fuel consumption figure of 6.8 L/100 km.
The JCW Clubman rides on 18-inch light alloy wheels as standard while 19-inch light alloy wheels are offered as an option. Stopping power comes courtesy of a Brembo sports brake system and a sports exhaust system is also fitted.
In terms of practicality, the JCW Clubman luggage compartment offers 360-litres of space and the optional 40:20:40 rear seats can be folded down to increase capacity to 1 250-litres. The split doors open automatically and a storage package, roof rails and a tow bar with a removable ball head is offered as an option.
The central colour instrument display is 6.5-inches in size which can be increased to an 8.8-inch colour display as an option. The familiar start/stop button and familiar toggle switches are found in the cabin as well as a central console with armrest, Mini Controller, electronic parking brake and 2 cup holders. A Head-Up display is offered as an option. The Radio Mini Visual Boost system is fitted as standard and a USB and Aux port are also offered. Mini offers a wide range of options to further customise your JCW Clubman.
The JCW Clubman is also equipped with a parking assistant, park distance control, rear view camera, driving assistant with camera-based active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning, high beam assistant and road sign detection.
Other safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, stability control with traction control, electronic differential lock and rear ISOFIX mounts.

Mini JCW potency, now with Clubman practicality
What you’re looking at below are quite possibly the fastest barn doors in the world, but only because they’re hinged to the quickest-ever iteration of the Mini Clubman, the John Cooper Works flagship, which is now on sale in South Africa.
Huh? What’s a Clubman? You could say that it’s the closest thing that Mini offers to a traditional estate car, and it has a handy set of barn doors leading to the 360-litre boot, which is hardly enormous but still rather Maxi by Mini standards.
But the big deal here is that you get to have your practicality with true hot hatch performance and handling. Like its JCW hatch siblings, this Clubman is powered by a beefed up version of the 2-litre turbopetrol engine found in the Cooper S, in this case good for 170kW from 5000 to 6000rpm and 350Nm from 1450. Power goes to all four wheels through either a six-speed manual or eight-speed autobox and in both cases the JCW is said to be capable of a 6.3-second 0-100km/h sprint and 238km/h top speed.
The Clubman JCW is kitted out with a Brembo sports braking system as well as Electronic Differential Lock Control and Dynamic Damper control.
The John Cooper Works stamp is also very much visible in the aerodynamic sports body kit, which includes a honeycomb grille, sills, aprons and spoilers as well as contrasting red mirror and roof finishes, and the car runs on unique 18-inch wheels (19-inchers are optional).
The cabin keeps up appearances with JCW sports seats, featuring integrated headrests, a bespoke multi-function steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and anthracite roof liner among other JCW garnishes.
The JCW comes standard with conventional air conditioning and a 16.5cm colour screen housing a Bluetooth-equipped sound system, and there is a massive options list, making you pay extra for a 22.3cm touch-screen, navigation, active cruise control, head-up display, dual zone climate control, ambient lighting with adjustable colours and basically all the cool stuff, apart from the potent engine and dynamic package of course.

Mini JCW Countryman & Clubman (2017) Launch Review
And the Clubman?
The Clubman JCW is lower – it sits at 141 mm off the ground. It feels more direct and agile on turn in and the steering heavier and feelsome. It’s altogether a different car that is aimed at driving enthusiasts rather than a compromised crossover like the Countryman.
The Clubman JCW has sportier handling characteristics like better-weighted steering and a lower centre of gravity.
The Clubman JCW is interesting in that it’s shaped like a wagon (the aft doors open like those of a panel van, which means reverse parking manoeuvres can be tricky) and it has a (relatively) long wheelbase. The wagon shape is cool, despite what the local sales charts seem to suggest, and the bay doors are refreshingly different. It’s comparable to something like a Golf GTI or a Mercedes A250, but in an unconventional package.
It was really fun to send the Clubman derivative up and over 4 mountain passes between George and Oudtshoorn; it offered up ample grip and feel on the way down Robinson Pass to Mossel Bay. It’s more driver-focused than a GTI – and certainly sportier than an A250 – and if you need a modicum of usable luggage space in your Mini, it offers a great alternative to the Mini Hatch.
Inside stuff
Clubman interior, like the whole Mini range, is very busy inside. Metallic pedals are a JCW addition.
The JCW cabin doesn’t differ much from the S derivatives. You do get specific JCW seats, a special door sill and a JCW-branded steering wheel. The cabin remains typically busy with colourful lights that illuminate the cabin and the centre infotainment system. There’s also now a Mini Connected app that links your phone and car up so that you can send destinations from your phone to the car’s navigation (you can also see the fuel left in the tank, which is novel...). The JCW sports seats are firm and supportive, but, on the downside, are likely to get a little uncomfortable after a few hours of driving. The luggage bay on the Clubman remains the same at 360 litres and the Countryman’s Crossover's size enlarges the load area to 450-litres.
Sporty JCW seats are firm and supportive but not made for long journeys.
Final word
The Mini JCW range now totals 3 cars. We drove the Hatch version last year and it was a finalist for Fun Car of the Year category of the 2016/17 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards. Now with the Clubman JCW, the Oxford-based marque avails a more practical fun car that has a very distinct personality and design. The JCW upgrade endows it with really competitive power and acceleration figures that are a match for the competition. It’s a great alternative to the raft of 5-door premium hot hatchbacks out there and you’ll certainly stand out in a crowd of hum-drum VW GTIs.
The Countryman JCW is a little more difficult to place. It doesn’t really add anything to the Crossover’s abilities. The 18-inch wheels are likely to be a nightmare to keep scratch-free if you want to drive down dirt roads often. The Countryman JCW isn’t quite mad enough to make an audacious statement that the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 does and it’s not markedly more powerful than the standard S to make it a huge upgrade. The Countryman JCW feels like an added styling package to fit a sporty personal taste, but with a bit of extra performance to sweeten the deal.
Pricing
Mini sees itself as a premium brand with the likes of Audi, Merc and BMW so its pricing is in the same range as the competition from those brands.
