2016 Municipal Elections

I'm not voting this year.

Why should I vote for a party, DA, that wants to implement AA and thereby potentially disenfranchised me?

OFFS! You vote for the opposition, whoever they may be, to balance the scales and make ALL parties accountable. This is not String Theory, it's really, really, really simple.

Just give them the finger and work with it. Then tell everyone how successful you are in an unfair environment, or just work at a place with <50 people.

I need to re-register when there is a special registration day - Don't feel like locating and driving to my closest IEC offices.

ACDP is also pro AA so he would be back to square one. I think FF+ is the only mainstream party that wants to scrap AA/BBBEE

If you consider less than 1% of the national vote "mainstream" yes ... I've given up entirely on voting for the policies I most align with, rather it is a compromise between what you align with and who can realistically get enough votes to implement. So it is DA all the way despite some policy concerns, can they really make the effects of AA worse than it already is?

A vote for anyone other than ANC, EFF or DA is a wasted vote that will drown in the majority of the other parties, so if I'm forced to choose between only those three ...

By mainstream I meant generally known and have been around for years. Personally I feel the FF+ could be a lot bigger if a fair bit of DA supporters actually voted along their lines of their beliefs regarding things like AA/BBBEE. But its more fashionable to vote DA than FF+, even if you openly hate key policies of the DA. Something I will never understand

Hmm. Maybe I will vote FF+.

Going to be tricky voting for the DA until they get off the fence on two issues - abortion and the death penalty.

But then that would be more relevant at national election time.

Sad but true. Thing is I know where I live there is a reasonable chance to keep the city governed by something other than the ANC, but it is only possible if I vote DA.

If we all start voting for our beliefs FF+ may well shoot much higher, but the ANC will win once again. Personally I like the "Cape Party" best, but they have no hope in hell of achieving anything ever :D

Need to change my voting district. When/where/how do I do this?

How about we make a deal?

Let's get the ANC out and then you can worry about 1st world problems like which political party treats you like a special little snowflake.

ANC must fall, not just Zuma, says Maimane

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane says people should not only focus on removing President Jacob Zuma, but also on voting the ANC out of power.

"People say Zuma must fall and I agree, but Zuma isn't the only problem we have," Maimane told party supporters in Pretoria on Friday.

"Zuma has many children, the likes of Sputla [Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa] in the ANC. When we say change, it must be a change to affect all. The ANC must fall, it must not only be Zuma."

Maimane was speaking at the launch of the party's "vote for change" campaign, next to a billboard that had been put up on Hamilton Street.

He told the small group that the changes people were promised in 1994 had not materialised.

"It [the ANC] had promised hope that many people were going to find opportunities, but today many more still don't have work and many more still don't have running water. Many more are still living in a South Africa that has still not delivered the dream it promised," he said.

"This is the year we take matters into our own hands. It is in our own hands to see the future we want," he said.

He called on party members to encourage their fellow South Africans to register to vote for the upcoming local government elections.
