I agree with Drifter - my brother has a Golf 6 GTI and Golf 7 GTI. Neither car 'ran way' from the ST. They would have won 10 of 10 times, but the ST is no slouch at all. I think they're early 7s in the real world which actually puts it quicker than the 177kw OPC ...

Funny thing about GTI's and ST's is that they're so common that you have to mod or flash them to be "faster" than the next guy because from a technical point you have exactly the same power as everyone else in their ST's and GTI's because all you idiots have the exact same cars!

It goes double for GTI's because they're probably twice as common

Funny and sad.

I am an Opel fan, both my cars are Opels one of which is turbocharged . I have beaten a good few Gti 5/6 but not 7 . From the line I cannot match them since my car is damn heavy but I do catch up AND overtake them. I will choose another Astra any day purely because I think its the best looking and least common hot hatch. The Astra OPC is a beautiful car, it may not be as fast as the golf R but it sure looks a hell of a lot better.

may not be as fast as the golf R

... that's an understatement ;)

I think a 206kw Golf R is about 5 seconds where a 206KW OPC is 6.8 seconds. I think the OPC is more like Golf 7 GTI league

Jeez you okes can trail off big time; my original post was just to make dudes aware of the new (Corsa) OPC; before the local crappy motoring sites do.

And when reading this thread it's 80% about why the current (Astra) OPC is better/not better than G5/G6/G7 GTI and/or R Golf...

Their street cred is taking a bashing on our roads...
Even when modified they struggle against the Hondas and VW and others.

The point of the car is not straight line speed. It's how well it handles and corners

Good to see they have all three spec levels again, yet I am pretty sure that article has the Essentia spec wrong. My 5 years old Essentia came factory fitted with GM's CD30 MP3 unit, 7 speakers as well as A/C. It would be very stupid of GMSA to drop those as standard option on the Essentia, which will be the volume seller. Sure it will make do without cruise control, rear electric windows, fancy lights and colour coded door handles (Enjoy level goodies) but A/C and radio/mp3 should be standard.

Epic fail for not including A/C and USB radio in the Essentia. FFS this is a car costing R185k! Essentia used to be the model most people went for, even the old Astra (H) Essentia came with A/C and CD30 MP3 unit.

If I ever do get one it will be Enjoy, in 8 years time when I can afford one. Very happy with my recently acquired Astra H 1.8 Enjoy.

Thread title fail

How so man? It does link up; this model is tops till OPC hits SA; it has OPC bits as well...would you have preferred a whole new thread just to announce the "2015 Opel Corsa Sport for R225k" or would you have preferred a thread necro move...I'm thinking 1998 Corsa Lite

The Sport looks very good, and it is priced right. If you compare it to a Verveeld Wagen it really is a much more attractive offering. The OPC will be epic, remember that the guys over at OPC only get to do their magic on cars after they go on sale to the general public. They really are a true tuning house per definition.
