New model not coming to SA:
Some seven vehicle ranges have this month officially been discontinued in South Africa.
All of these vehicles have been removed from their respective manufacturers’ official price lists, although there may be some run-out stock scattered around the country.
After discontinuing the Aveo a couple of months back, Chevrolet has now also withdrawn the Sonic from its local line-up. The ageing Chevrolet Orlando, too, has been pulled.
The Honda Mobilio, meanwhile, has effectively been replaced by the BR-V, and the Land Rover Defender has finally (officially) shuffled off into the sunset.
The Mini Paceman, which is expected to go out of production by the end of 2016, is no longer listed, while Volkswagen has discontinued both the CC and the Touran. Volkswagen SA tells us that the Golf SV fills the void left by the Touran, and that the CC’s upcoming replacement (which will be called the Arteon) is “under consideration” for local introduction.
In addition, a handful of derivatives from other ranges have also left our market, including the special edition BMW M3 30 Year Edition (which was limited to 30 units), all Hyundai Elantra automatic models, the Jeep 75th Edition variants, the three-door Kia Rio Tec automatic, all Renault Mégane coupé variants (bar the RS) and the three-door Volkswagen Up! models.
