Was his actual comments not about release clauses? Saying that is Pogba had a release clause it would have been thereabout, but the lack of a release clause allowed them to charge more, and that is why he is not in favour of release clauses.
It might be a different article I speak of though.
 
^, don't forget Real Madrid nosing around at the same time...bit like Arsenal and Chelsea are doing with Virgil van Dijk.

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejects Chelsea and wants Liverpool move

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down the opportunity to join Premier League champions Chelsea, according to Sky sources.

The Gunners had agreed to sell the England international to their London rivals for a fee believed to be £35m.

However, Sky Sports News understands the 24-year-old favours a move to Liverpool ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract at the end of the season and is now set to either see out the remaining 11 months of his Arsenal deal or move to Liverpool, were they to put in a bid and have it accepted.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is currently on duty with the England squad, has started all of Arsenal's games this season but met manager Arsene Wenger ahead of Sunday's 4-0 loss to Liverpool, to discuss his future.

Former Arsenal man Nigel Winterburn thinks it is time for Oxlade-Chamberlain to depart and told Sky Sports News on Tuesday: "Personally, I think he has had enough at Arsenal.

"It is time to move on and face a new challenge."

Told ya so

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea after the Premier League clubs agreed a £40m fee.

Oxlade-Chamberlain believes the Blues planned to use him at wing-back, and his primary reason for wanting to leave Arsenal is to play in central midfield.

The 24-year-old England international wants to move to Liverpool.

A bid from the Reds is expected before Thursday's transfer deadline, although it is likely to be below the price Chelsea were willing to pay.

Should a move not transpire, Oxlade-Chamberlain will see out the final year of his contract before potentially leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Arsenal want any deal for the former Southampton midfielder completed as quickly as possible.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has started every game for the Gunners so far this season, including Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Liverpool, when he was substituted.

Alexis Sanchez: Arsenal reject £50m from Manchester City for Chilean forward

Arsenal have rejected a £50m bid from Premier League rivals Manchester City for forward Alexis Sanchez.

The 28-year-old, who scored 24 Premier League goals last season, is out of contract next summer and wants to play for City manager Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal have rebuffed all approaches for Sanchez, and would like City's Raheem Sterling as part of any deal before Thursday's transfer deadline.

But Guardiola is understood to want the Chilean as a straight purchase.

England forward Sterling, 22, has featured in all three of City's games so far this season.

However he is not guaranteed a starting role at Etihad Stadium following the summer arrival of Bernardo Silva from Monaco.

BBC Sport understands Sterling would be interested in moving back to London should he become part of the Sanchez deal.

'Arsenal in a world of trouble'

Sanchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona, where he played under Guardiola, in 2014 for a fee of about £35m and won the FA Cup for the second time last season.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said earlier this month that Sanchez would "respect" his decision and stay.

The Chilean made his first appearance of the season in Arsenal's 4-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday, coming off for Alexandre Lacazette after 62 minutes.

Former Liverpool and England midfielder Danny Murphy says Arsenal cannot afford to lose Sanchez.

"If they let him go they're in a world of trouble. They're in a world of trouble anyway," Murphy said on Match of the Day 2.

"He worked hard enough [at Liverpool] but as the game went away from Arsenal you could see him getting frustrated.

"His body language wasn't good when he came off - in fact before he came off you could tell he was despondent."

Arsenal's stance remains that they have no desire to sell, unless huge money and a player - most likely Sterling - are offered.

The final 48 hours of the transfer window are sure to test their resolve, and while in theory it could still go either way, the most likely outcome remains that Sanchez will stay and see out the final year of his contract.

Mamadou Sakho: Liverpool reject £25m Palace bid for French defender

Liverpool have rejected a £25m bid from Crystal Palace for defender Mamadou Sakho.

Palace chairman Steve Parish made the offer on Tuesday in a deal that was worth £22m plus £3m in add-ons.

It was Palace's third offer of the summer for the 27-year-old, and was instantly turned down by Liverpool.

They say they will not accept anything less than £30m for the French defender, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Selhurst Park last season.

Sakho is surplus to requirements at Anfield after falling out of favour with manager Jurgen Klopp before the start of last season.

Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion are also interested in Sakho but it is believed a return to London would be his favoured option if a deal can be agreed.

Sakho established himself as a favourite at Selhurst Park during his loan spell last season under Sam Allardyce, helping Palace escape from relegation.

Palace have started the season with three Premier League defeats under new manager Frank de Boer.

Ox was from Southampton so he probably wants to return there - Liverpool will be his choice then :)
