The 2016 Paris Motor Show provides the venue for the unveiling of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, the first four-seater in Prancing Horse history to sport a turbo-charged V8 engine, hailing a whole new Ferrari GT concept aimed at owners seeking a car that is sporty and versatile, as well as perfect for driving on a daily basis.

The new GT effortlessly marries elegance, superb occupant comfort and sportiness with the thrilling driving dynamics delivered by a combination of rear-wheel-only drive, four-wheel steering, lighter overall weight and increased weight bias towards the rear (46:54).

The car's 3.9-litre V8 turbo is the latest evolution to emerge from the engine family that was nominated the 2016 International Engine of the Year. Its maximum power output is 610 cv at 7,500 rpm while maximum torque of 760 Nm is available at between 3,000 and 5,250 rpm.

The V8 turbo's characteristics suit day-to-day driving in urban contexts: a rich powerful soundtrack in acceleration that becomes more muted at lower speeds, rapid pick-up from low revs courtesy of versatile, modular torque delivery and, last but not least, excellent range.

The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T's dynamic control systems have been specifically calibrated to boost responsiveness to commands. In particular, the 4WS (rear-wheel steering), which is integrated with Side Slip Control (SSC3), makes for more rapid response to steering wheel inputs entering and exiting corners, thanks to the rear wheels steering in the same direction as the front ones.

The feeling of longitudinal performance in this new model has been enhanced at low speeds by Variable Boost Management and underscored by throttle response with zero turbo lag. Thanks to variable torque curves (VBM) between 3rd and 7th gear, longitudinal acceleration is consistent through the ratios, increasing smoothly with engine speed, resulting in a feeling of vivid but superbly progressive acceleration.

The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T's styling remains the same innovative take on the shooting brake coupé, reinterpreting the concept with an extremely streamlined, tapered shape that gives it an almost fastback-like silhouette. The cabin is an effortless melding of distinctive Ferrari styling and the luxurious elegance expected of a four-seater GT. The GTC4 Lusso T features the unique Dual Cockpit architecture, designed to enhance the shared driving experience for both driver and passenger. It also incorporates the latest iteration of the infotainment system complete with an impressive 10.25" HD capacitive touchscreen.

Ferrari has unveiled a new, er, “entry-level” GTC4Lusso variant, with the latest version of the four-seater featuring a 3,9-litre V8 turbo.

The newcomer is dubbed the GTC4Lusso T, and its arrival marks the first time Ferrari has offered a choice of engines in a single model. The full-fat GTC4Lusso, of course, is still available, and employs a 6,2-litre naturally aspirated V12.

That V12 model furthermore features all-wheel drive, while the new GTC4Lusso T has all of its oomph sent to the rear instead. This saves somewhere in the region of 80 kg, and also means that the new model features an increased weight bias towards the rear.

The force-fed V8 comes from the California T, but in this latest application makes 449 kW and 760 N.m (that’s 58 kW down on the V12, but 63 N.m more). The obligatory sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes 3,5 seconds (one-tenth slower than the 12-cylinder model), while the top speed is listed simply as “more than 320 km/h”.

The new derivative of the FF-successor will be on display at the Paris Motor Show.

Here's how much the Ferrari GTC4Lusso costs in SA...

Remember the Ferrari FF? Well, then you’ll recall that the Italian automaker’s four-seater was eventually succeeded by the GTC4Lusso.

And, while we’ve had pricing for the rear-wheel drive GTC4Lusso T (some R5 372 000) – powered by a 449 kW/760 N.m version of the force-fed, 3,9-litre V8 from the California T – for some time, we can now finally reveal just how much the full-fat, 6,3-litre V12-powered model will cost you right here in South Africa.

Chequebook ready? Right, you’re looking at a grand total of R6 218 000 (before you’ve ticked any options boxes, of course) for the naturally aspirated 12-cylinder derivative, which makes 507 kW and 697 N.m, and boasts all-wheel drive.

That makes it some R846 000 – or about the price of a new BMW 530i – more expensive than the GTC4Lusso T.

For the record, the V12 model hits 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 3,4 seconds (one-tenth faster than the turbocharged V8 variant), before topping out at 335 km/h. And the 200 km/h mark? Well, that arrives in just 10,5 seconds…

Ferrari launches new GTC4Lusso in SA

The latest addition to the local Ferrari range arrives in South Africa - the 12-cylinder GTC4Lusso.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso, integrating rear-wheel steering with four-wheel drive, is aimed at, says the automaker, "owners looking for a supercar that is sporty, elegant, versatile and suitable for everyday driving".

The name of this new model hints at its illustrious predecessors, including the 330 GTC, its 2+2 sister model, the 330 GT, and the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso.

The number '4' plays an important role in the new model; it has four wrap-around seats, four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering.

The new GTC4Lusso is fitted with Ferrari’s 4RM Evo four-wheel drive system, integrated with rear-wheel steering.

Mervyn Eagles, CEO of Scuderia South Africa, said: "This enables the driver to effortlessly handle the GTC4Lusso’s extraordinary torque even on snow-covered, wet or low grip roads. The result is tremendous stability and masterful control that translate into superior performance.

"In short, the GTC4Lusso brings unprecedented versatility to Ferrari driving, like the FF before it. Through the FF, won the Prancing Horse a new, younger client base that also makes greater use of its cars, clocking up 30% higher mileage than average and thus success is set to continue with the GTC4Lusso."

All the wheels are driven by the GTC4Lusso’s 12-cylinder 6262cc engine capable of 507kW/697Nm.

Ferrari said: "Although it won’t be legal to push the GTC4Lusso to its maximum speed of 335 km/h on any South African public road, it will be quite easy to humiliate street racers by clocking the 0-100km/h dash in just 3.4 seconds."
